Alright im like 3 years deep into all this and the past couple days i get up and am feeling fine ...insert a suppository and do what i gotta do for fifteen-twenty minutes....Hop on the toilet and begin a digital stimulation when i take my finger out i begin to stat feeling pressure build in my head then bam it is like my head wants to damn ear explode and almost brings me to tears (i dont wanna say i was crying to y'all lol) anyhow i know this associated with high blood pressure and i have had this happen when for some odd reason i actually hold a high amount of urine in my bladder when im asleep ( i say that because my bladder spasms leave me with an issue of leaking nightly) so i do the normal routine of checking everything out and cathing .....still my head wants to pop.All i can do is lie down and basically pass out and conitnue my bowel routine when i wake up.
The third day wasnt as bad as the first two as i just let everything push itself out before i started dig stim and didnt have to lie down. I have just moved to the san jose area and have no doctor here yet so i decided to go to the emergency room and get a second opinion. The doctor really didnt know what was wrong nor had he heard of something like that before and being i want a normal patient of his he couldnt make follow ups and what not so it was really nothing more than an educated conversation which is fine...i didnt expect something to resolve it right there anyhow. Then i get up this morning and conduct the daily ritual and it happened again as intense as the first two days. Now i am sure i could have said this much quicker but i felt the story was needed so my apologies on that . Basically what im wondering is if anyone else has ever had this happen to them and if so what did you do ? I was curious if it may be early stage of a prostate problem but the doctor said i was too young to have that be the case. Hopefully i can find some help on this one as it is going to take me some time to find a doctor around here......And with that being aid if anyone from here is in the bay area and knows of good doctors i would appreciate some direction in that as well thank you very much |

Hi Meekalo, Welcome to the Apparelyzed site.
From the description it sound like you are having Autonomic Dysreflexia during your bowel function. Please read up on the article in Apparelyzed, and understand what Dysreflexya is. http://www.apparelyzed.com/autonomic.html . It is important to identify what is causing the Dysreflexia and treat it at the earliest. Your Dr may be able to prescribe patch/spray that could reduce your blood pressure and it can help reduce pain. I know it is hard when you are in that much of pain, but try not to lie down as that will help blood to rush to your head. Sit up as much as possible. You may want to print the page on Dysreflexya and take it to you Dr as many of them may never have heard of it. I had similar experience when I had some stomach bug, and was cured when treated for the same. I had this trouble while I was in India, and when I went to top Neurologist and Ortho in town, they almost laughed at me thinking I got pain in my ass, and calling it headache! I called up Spinal hospital here and as per their recommendation I went to local GP to get prescription for Stomach bug and had no trouble next day. When my bladder is full I feel my blood pressure go up, but so far not caused Dysreflexia. Any injury/pain/irritation below your injury level can trigger Dysreflexia, identify and treat the root cause at the earliest. 2 times I had Dysreflexia when I used Ferticare Vibrator to retrieve sperm, so GP prescribed a spray that could help reduce blood pressure quicker to relieve pain. |

I agree with Denny. I had Autonomic Dysreflexia once when I had bowl movements when I was first injured. It was really bad. The nurse took care of me by rainsing and lowering the head of my bed. Good luck.

Good luck. I appreciate the feedback and I am fully aware of ad and this is the complete opposite if my normal ad symptoms.... My question was if anyone has ever had that same situation happen as I haven't and if so then what was the problem... Again I appreciate the help but am aware of the obvious. |

My husband has had this problem for the past 4 days. It is so bad that he says that he sees a rainbow color stars during the pain and it brings him to tears, and it happens when we are doing his bowel program. and we don't know what is causing it either. we have a appt at the docs on monday. maybe we will get some answers. if we do i will post what they say.

Trina, It's Autonomic Dysreflexia, caused from a tear just inside the rectum (it could easily happen during a bowel program).
I had the EXACT same problem over a year ago. The major headache, and passing out sensation from the pain. Go to your doctor ASAP (don't wait. Go to the walk in emergency if you have to) ask for a perscription for Lydocain, in the "Gel" form. It's a medication that, when applied a few minutes before the bowel program, will deaden the senses of the surrounding area for 30-45 minutes. So, depending on how long your husbands BP lasts, he may have to apply it more than once. Honest, it works. Once in a while I get small panging headaches during my BP, so I still use the Lydocain. It works wonders. Good luck. This post has been edited by qbounce: Nov 5 2009, 04:08 AM |
