I just had a debriedment (spelling?) last week. My wound went from a stage 2 to a stage 4 after the surgery. Surgeon says I am not eligible for a wound vac , he believes it wont help, at this juncture. In any event, I have considered a consultation with a herbalist. Is that a good idea? Has anyone tried herbs to promote wound healing.

First I suggest a new wound care doctor,,,,,, to tell you that the wound vac won't work in your case seems strange to me, since it is often used successfully with wounds open to the body cavities.

Do your own research,,,, as there sounds something fishy here, with this surgeon's statement. I wouldn't allow his word to be the last I heard on the matter. My guess is that he intends to do flap surgery on you and doesn't want you to decide against it.

Yes, I have done wound healing via herbalist, but for a stage 3 wound. I took many vitamins and some pretty horrible teas. I also put on different ointments. At first it was one type then another and then another at each stage of the healing process. Some of my doctors were astonished at how fast it healed. In the end though, I still have a pretty horrible scar from it. So I have to be careful in that area. Check it often. I wish you luck. I agree with edlee that you might consider getting another opinion.

When my husband had his Stage 4 wound the doctor also told him that the wound vac wouldn't help. He had his cleaned out and then told the doc he wanted to go home instead of having it stitched up. So we brought him home and packed it with the stuff they gave us and gave it some TLC and it healed up in no time. When it became shallower we used neosporin and silvercell on it.

I tried a would vac also and made my situation worse> I had 7 yes 7 stage 3 sores. Most around my anal area which were extremely had to manage. The 3 that I was able to work I I did the following. I first put a dab of SilvaSord then covered it with a piece of Firbacol Plus)Cologen Dressing (expensive stuff) then covered it up with Exudern LP (low profile). Well by doing this for approxmately 2wks and changing 2x a day they eventually healed up to the point where I used some SilvaSord and gauze. The other 4 needed flap surgery (1"x1") stage 4. Layed up on a Clinitron bed in hospital for 2wks then home on my own with no further problems. Just make sure of no sheering expecially on the new flaps. By the way I'm not new to flaps, I had 4 of them about 5yrs ago. I think I got the flattest and boneest(?) ass in NJ.

What caused the sores? New doc for sure.
