Hey there, I just got me a new wheel chair. There are 2 major differences in this wheel chair and my old wheel chair which I've used for over 5 years.
#1) It's 'lower'
#2) The BACK is lower.
- The old one, the back was 'high' and reached to just below my shoulders -- and this new one leaves about 4-6 inches free from my shoulders down.

I think the biggest indicator is, obviously, the back being lower. The horrible thing is I had to wait all this time for this new chair, wait for it to be ordered, and I'm stuck with it -- yet, I can barely use it unless I'm indoors. Every other 'push' I get a spasms that either throws me back, or gets my legs doing the Irish dance.

Do I need to give my body time to adjust to this chair? It's been a month, though ...

please advise if anyone has had any similar situations, or any ideas... thanks.

I have just bought a Quickie GP and I have been in it two day and I am so unstable so I will have to ajust it,

lower the back ,raise the footplate, change the rear wheels until I get use to it but it will take several days/weeks to get use to it.

Depending on what model of chair you might be able to buy a set of taller poles (this is if you have a sling upholstery) also it is possible just some adjustments to it would help.

Who \ where did you get it from?

Depending on how you got it you may be able to get something done......especially since the chair is new you haven't therefor damaged it. Call the place and ask about getting a different chair OR at least raising the back height.

That's got to suck having a new chair and not being able to use it. Hope it all gets sorted out.

Try getting a new back put on. Or take your old wheelchair back and put in on this new chair. Hubby had a similar situation with his everyday chair which is a TiLite. He switched the TiLite sling back with his Quickie (other chair) sling back. The Quickie back rest is much firmer than the TiLite, which gave him more support. smile.gif
