New to this site. I am a T-4 paraplegic over 3 years now (23 years of age). I have the worst and most power leg spasms any doctor has ever seen. I can actualy kick myself off my chair. Medicines I have taken: Skelaxin 800mg take on tablet by mouth four times daily, Zanaflex 4mg take 4 tablets by mouth twice daily, Valium 10 mg Take one tablet by mouth 4 times daily. The baclofen was 20mg tablets and i was taking around 150mg's a day and we all know that is above the limit. Standing frame doesnt help, and my stim unit isnt helping either. I have heard one medicine that help many people, but a different kind of drug. People who use Marinol or smoke a joint or two a day say that seems to work the best with their own spasms, but their's are like twitching compared to mine. Here is a story for you, My wife and I were going to make our marriage valid that night, when she climbed on top of me my left leg spazd and I broke her nose the night we got married. Still a little funny though now, but if anyone else has this problem maybe you could help me out in what to try.

i'm a c5 quad incomplete and have terrible spasms as well. Marijuana helps me more than anything I have tried (and ive tried all the meds). If you aren't actively using your legs, have you thought of Botox injections?

My spasticity and rigidity are off the charts too. My last laughable experience was when my left leg spazed so hard that it flipped me over and out of the bed. Then my daughter comes into my bedroom in the dark looking at my bed asking what I wanted. I said, "Hey, I'm down here." And, her reply was, "What are you doing down there?" As if..............
Anyway I have too much living to do to try to do it high so I turned down that option. However I did go as far as having a Baclofen pump trial done. It was wonderful! My legs were like noodles. After leaving the hospital I noticed such a big difference when riding in the van because any jolt, bump or corner causes me to spaz. I was riding so easily and comfortably.
So, I think that if I really came to the place where I couldn't deal with the spasms any longer. that's probably the way I would go. You might talk to a doctor about at least having the trial done so you'd get a good idea of what kind of relief it might give you.

My spasms are becoming more violent in intensity and duration. I upped my Baclofen but not really helping. I smoke canibus but only when I'm home, so during the day when I'm at work my spasms are crazy. Actually I kneed my wife in the chin the other night, thought I was going to knock her out. I've got to find something as the spaz's are really disrupting therapy and my ability to transfer.

I forgot about those. I've had the max dosage every 3 months, but that crap doesnt even faze them. Maybe the Marinol is the way to go.

i've used baclofen, valium, xanaflex/tizanidine, and lyrica. lyrica helped the most out of the prescriptions with spasms and neuropathic pain. although it is taboo, it is true, that marijuana helps calm my legs down. it has side-affects like any other drug, but i find them less intrusive than how baclofen, skelaxin, or valium have made me feel.
i'd take medicinal marijuana over my current coctail: lexapro (for mood) lyrica (for nerve pain) and tizanidine (for spasms)
and it helps me eat as becoming a paraplegic has also made my appetite go to waste...especially when fighting a UTI

I am up around 180mg nowadays. I'm not sure if this is too much but my body feels like it is "in need" of it at certain points in the day. It's almost like it thinks of it as a pain medication. Did it do this for you to?

I agree with the Baclofen pump trial. I have one now and it has done wonders in my spasticity and I am also spasm free.

I am T12 complete 3 years.
Likwise my legs spasm pretty strong too. I can kick myself out of chair too, transfers just bug me as do getting dressed etc. Can be real annoying sometimes!
I found the following helps: (I take no drugs)
Try not taking anti spasm drugs.
spasms are always worse day after drinking. So Rehydrate.
1 hour plus in standing frame
running a bladder catheter/emptying bladder
This one was...ahem...accidentally discovered...Use Ferticare/Anything that stimulates your Jonson.(sacral nerve stimulation)
