I am a T-4 Incomplete and I am wondering what the experiences of others are with the baclofen pump?

I just met with my doctor who said I am an excellent candidate for the Baclofen pump due to the severity of my spasticity.

QUESTIONS:

1. To what degree does it take away or lessen spasticity?

2. If you are like me and have predominant spasticity on one side, how does it affect the non-spastic areas of the body?

3. Does it have sexual side affects (male question)?

4. Is it painful to put in? (As you can imagine I am FREAKED out about the though of having anything stuck in my spine)

5. Does the tube in the spine have to be replace often?

6. Do they put you under to put it in?

7. How long have some of you (who have one) had it in?

8. Would you recommend it over oral medication?

I've just recently had a baclofen pump put in and I'm very pleased that I had it done.

If you're spasticity affect your daily activity I would definitely recommend it.

I am a C4 C5 incomplete quadriplegic I've been paralyzed for almost 9 years now.

1. To what degree does it take away or lessen spasticity?
it depends on how high the dosage is the more baclofen you have the less spasms you'll have.

2. If you are like me and have predominant spasticity on one side, how does it affect the non-spastic areas of the body?
I don't believe it would affect the non-spasticity side.

4. Is it painful to put in? (As you can imagine I am FREAKED out about the though of having anything stuck in my spine)
I'm pretty sure were all freaked out about having something stuck in our spine. thank God I cannot feel it.

5. Does the tube in the spine have to be replace often?
you may want to ask your Dr. what you can and cannot do.

6. Do they put you under to put it in? Yes.

7. How long have some of you (who have one) had it in? 9days now had it put me on 1-21-09.

8. Would you recommend it over oral medication? YES
