Hello everyone
I am Dove, and involved in almost fatal car accident 4/17/08. I am a T5 complete, paralyzed from mid breast on down. My back was broke in like 5 different places, broken ribs, pelvic, scapula (sp?), collapsed lungs, neck also (brace stopped me from moving neck), tracheotomy performed, induced coma (3 wks), ventillator etc....
I am home now and living independantly alone with my dog. Am a stubborn one..lol! I hope that is a good thing. After waking up from coma, left the hospital a week later for Rehab (there 2 months) I didn't want to leave. Although everyone was wonderful and taught me so much, there are still so many things that I know nothing about...and trying to find resources here in Michigan is like well pardon the cliche "pulling teeth"!
I have been hospitalized once with UTI (septic) Oh was I sick! Okay so I know to look out for that one now. I have my BM program down YEA!!! I have been checking in on your site for a little while now....you guys are wonderful and I can see there is much wisdom and knowledge here..so bear with me..as I will have allot of questions.
First is drop foot? I have it in my left foot, it was there when I was brought out of my coma. Please explain to me what it is and why it is important not to let it happen?
My incision starts at the base of my neck and continues down to mid back. I have 2 "13 inch (or more) bars that run on either side of my spine with 16 bolts and screws. The doctor replied that it was the longest bars they have used. Personnaly I don't know...all I know is I woke up and couldn't walk, move, talk..and was in a state of panic. I was kept heavily doped up...lol to the point I swore they were performing mid night experiments on me with rats and snakes..is this normal?
Anyway thanks for letting me ramble on....one thing I wish I had more time at rehab was transfers, floor transfers and lifting myself....any help would greatly be appreciated.
