i went to U.S. Play today thinking i was just gping to watch and then i actually got to bowl! this is a big deal to me because i used to bowl ALL the time before my SCI. i had so much fun and i just wanted to tell anyone who is letting their SCI hold them back from things they used to do to GO FOR IT. everyone was staring at me but i was so happy it didnt even matter. i bowled an 81. haha. my average was 136 before. but ill get it back. biggrin.gif

There's lots of cool adaptive equipment for bowling, and most, if not all alleys are ADA compliant all the way up to the lanes. There is a bowling ball with a pop-out handle whose name escapes me at the moment for people with limited grip strength. Also, check this out:

When I was at the Shepherd Center, the day I was discharged from inpatient, my therapy team was going on an outing to bowl.

They even had high-level quads out there bowling. It was really impressive. I was too excited to get the hell out of there, though, so I didn't go. I should have.

Man, I miss that place.

So do I. It made me feel perfectly ok with my sci for the first time. I'm actually headed down there today to get cleared to drive again. Then I'm going car shopping! Yay!!

We should start a former Shepherd patients thread. smile.gif

I did my driver evaluation my last day in the day program.

It was pretty scary. He made me drive on the interstate and it was my first time using hand controls.

I'm trying to get vocational rehab to help with a new car too. I'm thinking about getting a Ford Fusion with the Sync stuff smile.gif

We went once since my hubby's accident...and he bowled like a 30!!! hahaha. It was the first time I have ever beat him at bowling. Needless to say, we have not been back to the bowling alley since. tongue.gif

If you have to use hand controls it is a restriction on your actual drivers license...like being required to wear glasses.

p.s. I thought crip bowling sucked but to each their own.
