I have to ask this question. It has apparently been overlooked in Occupational Therapy training in several schools and in OT curriculum for SCI patients in many hospitals. I was taught in rehab to get dressed in bed. This is a HORRIBLE place to dress, especially on tempur-pedic! When I left rehab, a friend brought over the Murderball movie, and from that, I learned to dress in my wheelchair. I have since had the opportunity to do some volunteer work, and have have heard of some interesting places others with SCI get dressed. I have heard of different chairs (small chair with armrests), and have even met one para who dresses on the floor on a small mat. That one is crazy! I can't do it yet, but I'm working on it. I'm just curious as to other people's locations and methods.

I can get dressed anywhere at this point. Bed, bath-bench, chair, car, wherever.. I prefer the chair.. its quickest.

Oh, Ches, we are so twins!

I can get dressed basically anywhere as well but prefer chair because I find it's way easier to get pants on that way. I push up one side with one hand and yank up that side of the pants with the other, if that makes sense. Saves me from having to writhe around on the bed trying to wriggle them on.

The bed is difficult, and tempur-pedic is nearly impossible for me. Where I'm having trouble is the lack of flex in my back. The rods are from T10 all the way into the pelvis. (I will have the new x-ray pics in a week or so, and post them on myspace.) I just can't seem to get the pants/shorts quite all the way up in the back because my ass won't come up high enough.

I do the same as T.O. Chair is easiest for me, except when it comes to jeans. I always buy jeans that are a bit snug, and they are hard to put on in my chair because they are usually low ride & I have to wiggle a bit, lol. So for jeans I transfer onto my bed. But sometimes I can do them in my chair, it just depends on the style I am wearing.
I would get dressed on the floor when I was younger, but that was when I lived in a two story house, and I stayed upstairs without my wheelchair. I couldn't even think about getting dressed on the floor now!

While I can get dressed anywhere I need to, and was taught all that in rehab, I prefer the bed. For me it's almost like standing up, only horizontal.

I just flip like a pancake a coupla times and walah, I'm ready to step out on the town. LOL!

Bed first then chair for me, I require assistance for my pants etc. so bed is the spot...but shits and such I'm able to do on my own in my chair.

Clothes?
Shit! I never even thought of that. No wonder people look at me funny!
Maybe that's why I feel so "naked" all the time.
Sitting up straight on the edge of the bed with legs dangling over the side for pants and shoes. Shirts when I'm in the chair.
I pull my pants up over my knees then tip myself over and roll to the side to get them up over my ass.
Easier for me than laying down flat and rolling to the side.
T-4 so I have no ab's to help me.

I usually get dressed right on my shower bench so I don't have to do the naked butt transfer lol. I also taught myself to get dressed in my chair after watching Murderball and can now dress anywhere, shower, chair, bed, toilet.

Bed for sure with my pants but shirt is either..........I can undress in my chair no problem but highly doubt I could get pants on in my chair......oh what I'd give for hands in the morning to grab my pants in the back and pull them up but untill then its the 15-20 min quad flop fest but no worries I'm getting faster with practice

I had to think about it for a sec.......close call between bed & wheelchair; but aside from winter being almost exclusively bed the rest of the year is about 70/30 wheelchair/bed.

ME!! Especially after falling face first out the chair the first couple times I tried. Hate hospital style chairs. I finally started digging through pics of custom chairs and noticed the calf straps, so I fashioned my own and that's what made it possible to put socks on in that chair. I have found that sideguards are helpful in balancing for putting on socks as well.
