Any idea if massage therapy helps with SCI's?

It seems like it would help relieve pain and moisturize the skin, however I can't find much information online. Anybody used this therapy before? How did it work? Any concerns?

umm this may not answer anything but i did massage therapy for my neck. mostly for range of motion but it did feel great and reduced pain in my neck. im c5/c6 btw.

I used to get regular massage therapy for chronic pain in my back, more for the ligaments that were damaged in my injury and not for helping with my actual SCI. It sort of helped. It was more just nice to be able to lay there and relax. Plus it was free (ah, praise Canadian health care) and worth a shot. Apparently in some SCIs it can cause greater spasticity/spasms.

I get massages, the therapist is literally doing her god given talent.. she works with all walks of life, but mainly the elderly and disabled. She's completely in tune and Ive never had a problem going to see her, its been 19 months since I started. She uses a combonation of 7 different massage techniques based on how Im feeling and what my body is telling her. Its wonderful. If you can find something who actually knows what they are doing and wants to help.. not just give you the textbook massage then go for it.

My girlfriend massages my feet often but that's mostly for blood circulation, I have never had a real massage therapy like what Ches speaks of, but I would like to.
