Have you seen any movies (documentaries, dramas, comedies, etc) based on the topic of, or dealing with, spinal cord injury? I'm looking for films on this topic. Any advice?

Thanks.

"The Water Dance" with Eric Stoltz and Helen Hunt is excellent, although a bit dated. I've heard it referred to as a "training film" for those new to SCI.

Murderball! A must see for anyone with an SCI!

The Waterdance was very good I seem to remember, Wesley Snipes was in it. Also Born on the 4th of July and The Bone Collector.

Murderball is a good one smile.gif

In my opinion there are just not enough good ones.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and The Sea Inside are both very good, but I would hesitate to call them uplifting. I haven't watched either since I was injured, don't know how I would react to them now.

Ooh, thank you for remembering "The Sea Inside"...could not remember the title of that one. Yes, very good movie but it would be tough to watch if you're living through it.

Its not about SCI's, but Passion Fish is about a former actress with paraplegia. Its a pretty decent movie.
Though my favorite is The Waterdance. "Kick him Bloss!" "How in the hell am I suppose to kick him?"

I agree that there are not many good films about the subject. I'm actually a film student and have begun a screenplay that focuses on a character and his recovery from a SCI.

I wonder if anyone might be willing to consult on the topic. I will be the first to admit that I know little about the topic and really want to be sure that I get it right.

The episodes of the first season of Friday Night Lights dealing with the character of Jason Street. The second and third seasons don't really deal with that storyline well, but some of season 1 has very insightful writing on the subject.

Read through some of the other threads, get a little knowledge, and then post your questions openly so you can get more feedback. There's a thread here already from one film-maker who had some specific questions, and he's getting plenty of feedback.

I just remembered one the other day that was made in 1988... Monkey Shines: An Experiment in Fear

I haven't seen it in a long time, but it'll make you reconsider getting one of those assistive monkey's. :-)

Does Brokeback Mountain count?.

Quid Pro Quo is terrible.

Magic shoes? The death of any narrative film.

Those shoes are real Ben, don't spoil it for everyone!

I researched a thing I saw on Channel 4 ages ago, I remember when I saw it I thought I'd react exactly the same as David Thwelis's character if I ever
ended up in a chair.

I didn't even remember it had John Hurt in it too.

The Journey To Knock

I'd love to see it again but I can't find it anywhere. :[

I loved that film. It is wonderful, but very sad. It made me cry before my son was injured and, funnily enough, I kept thinking about that film when he became paralysed.
I love the part where the two main characters (I forget the names) spent the charity money they had collected on getting sloshed and picking up girls.

I searched a lot the internet recently, my nephew had a C4 injury. The best documentary I found is Moment by Moment - The history of recovery of Molly Hale. She is a role model. Her story is so inspiring. I recommend.
You can download it from http://www.archive.org/details/ConcentricM...oment_by_Moment

All the best.
