I want to do a track day for my 21st...

Something like the ones where you start in a porsche cayman and move onto faster cars...

Does anyone know of any where cars with handcontrols are available?

I want to ask for it for a present but thought I'd do the research myself first...

Any ideas?

There is one thing which is an e30 bmw 320i that is kitted out for racing but it is pricey, and whilst it's no doubt a lot of fun it's not really the format I'm looking for. It looks more like its designed for people getting into motor racing.

Anymore ideas?

I'm almost certain that there's nothing around of the format you're looking for, been keeping my eyes open for stuff like that ever since I was injured, it'd just never be a going concern, Para Rallying used to be around but the website is dead so not too sure if that's still going. Might be worth trying the phone number though.

That's one thing I've learnt from being sci, everything is possible it's just you need money to do it lol! Such is life!

I emailed thruxton about it and got a swift reply.

The Aston Martin and Ferrari F430 have paddle shift on the steering wheel and their exact words were "so you could drive those" but I don't think they realised what I meant by "hand controls" and "paraplegic" lol...

I know there was an episode of top gear where they had a coupel of disabled people go round the track in a porsche 911 and I think it had hand controls but can't remember exact details...maybe I should get in touch with them...after a bit of googling I've found it was series 2 episode 10.

AIUI Those guys were a group who all did rehab together in Stoke Mandeville about 10 yrs ago and wrote in together. They were all their own cars.

Its not quite a progressive day thing,or a supercar for that matter. However it has racing springs and tires so handles like a supercar!! If you rent this car you get a full hour of driving(unlimited amount of laps) and the chance to spend the whole day at Silverstone,Brands Hatch etc.

its not that expensive seeing as in the ferraris etc you only get 4 laps and in our car you get as many as you can complete in the hour of driving that you have.
You dont have to be getting onvolved in motor racing either,anyone can have a go

as a disabled motorsports fan,i know this is the only hand control track car that you will find in the UK!!

I'm pretty much a petrolhead myself and have been looking for speed fixes ever since my accident. As mentioned above, Para rallying is one that did a full "package" type affair, not sure if they still operate.

You could try the disabled driver association. They may be able to advise on something.

I gave up looking a while ago and went the expensive way, buying my own cars to track. Now I just have to put up with trying to get track officials to let me on!

I know one of the guys that was on the top gear episode you mention. His name is Rob Oldham and he used to frequent the MKIV Supra forums. He mentioned something about the Porsche being borrowed from a disabled race driver ( who's name escapes me, I think it was Shaun ...something) and was competing in a Porsche series at the time.

It's been a few years since I spoke to him so he might not be involved in the Supra scene anymore. I think he may have even gone over to mud plugging.
