Maybe I was just lucky,,, but I received my first SS disability check three months after I first applied,, and then a check for the three months retroactive to the date of application.
I was prompt with the information they asked for,, and as complete with it as I was able.
They say that luck favors the prepared. But i've been prepared to win the lottery, for years, and so far,,, nada.

Hell they came to me and pretty much offered to me. I am sorry for those truly disabled that have this type of problem, but when it says that 64% are initially denied, you have to imagine that just like all of the people that think they are disabled and need disabled parking, there are probably even more trying to get a free hand out. My dad has the same condition that the lady in the story has, he just spent 3 weeks in the hospital. He's also still a high school teacher and coach and spent last weekend on a 4 day trip to coach his track team at regionals. Hell everyone of his brothers and sisters along with his dad(not good news for me) have had heart problems and diabetes, yet they all still worked and not one of them filed for disability. So while I don't exactly know her case, I can't say that it bothers me that she has been denied.

I applied for and was approved in 45 days for SSI while in rehab. I know a guy that is just too lazy to work and got approved within 6 months, on mental not physical.

With so many lawyers out there claiming to be able to get you on SSDI, I am surprised that many more people aren't abusing the system.

They ARE, you just don't know it 'cause they're flying under the radar. I had a neighbor 10 years ago who filed for disability every few years after she "claimed" to have back problems. She never had surgery . . . only a doctors recommended disability insurance check.
Who knows how some do it? But they're out there working the system right under our noses.

Bleh, I have a uncle that has been getting it since the early 70's and I guess they gave more back then as he hasn't worked an "official" jobbed since he got on disability and has to make times what I got when i was on it since he always has a new card, his wife has a new card, his two daughters always had new cards and they've built 3 different brand new nice houses in the last 20 years, yet him and his wife have never had jobs.
