Hello All I will try again to find out about the muscle ripples i am having, what could be causing them, is it a good thing? I have been reading for a while and am glad at how well you help any one that is down i like all the encourging letters to whomever is down.. i am very positive so am not in need of cheering up, just working on my PT and legs get very hard and stiff. At times the muscles just ripple as i work them out. I am 11 months past my ladder fall which caused my legs to go numb right then, after two weeks i could move my toes a little, spent two months in rehab learning to transfer and other things, was then sent home and am now walking with walker a little, walking with cruches a littls and can stand unaided for a very few minutes. I live alone and have no help except for a friend who does my grocery shopping. I am taking blood thinner as i had a couple of blood clots in left leg. any help with Question would be very nice, thank you for reading..Ed Medlin

Hello Ed,

I am one of those people that got a lot of encouragement here, there are many great people here and let me welcome you.

Muscle spasms or rippling can be painful, but they will help you keep tone in unused muscles. they help with circulation, they can also warn you that something isn't right, such as a UTI, or have injured your leg or somewhere below the injury site.

Your muscles may just be responding to the stimuli of the PT sessions, mine did.

I too can walk short distances with the aid of a walker or limited use of forearm crutches, although I can't stand unaided.

Hello Dave, I was just reading your profile as you had a reply to a new member today, You have worked youself out of you login name, i believe, which is very good, just add a note saying the new Dave.. I have just worried a little that the stiffness and tightness and the rippling was maybe a bad thing.. i have worked very hard on my PT for 9 months now, One thing i have done that i haven't read anywhere is i had a 10 ft pole planted in my yard where i work out a lot and i can just hold on to the pole as i stand or walk around it first one way and then the other holding on with one hand, I am not worried about the walker or any thing but the legs and feet, I also stand taller. i have a very weak left leg and foot drop as it had blood clots in it and i couldn't work it as hard at first., thanks for your reply, Ed medlin

I no use of either foot, limited use of knees and hips. I also developed blood clots and have had to battle them since. I have been clot free and off blood thinners for 3 months.

I had gained some weight back, some to due to edema, other due to falling back into really bad eating habits during times of deep depression. My standing and walking exercises are walking (more like shuffling!) the length of my back porch twice a day and standing 10 minutes at a time as many times a day as I can muster.

I experience extreme fatigue after standing or walking and have to rest a bit before setting off again. Doctors have attributed this due to blood pressure dropping.

Hello. I'm also a partial. I can't stand or walk unaided but I am able to go 50-100ft or so with forearm crutches. And this has been a terrific place to be. Welcome & hope you will find this place as warm & welcoming as I did.
