Hi Ches

What are you aiming to achieve? I was just interested in knowing what your goals are and what you hope to achieve.

I have a fairly good understanding of some specialist therapies for us with paralsys - I was involved in setting up this centre http://www.theramax.info/ - so maybe I can offer some advice.

I want to reach my full potential DaveP. Not hoping to walk, but I want blood, sweat and tears. I want to get stronger, and most importantly to spend my money wisely.

Sounds great! You're obviously well motivated, which is the most important ingredient.

But why focus all this energy and money on this sort of therapy which I understand is more aimed at getting people walking? Are there any other T4/5's that have achieved this?

I know many low paras that have some leg function and can stand, take a few steps etc, but they all use wheelchairs. They whizz around in their chairs, and only stand to reach things, etc. Walking from A to B sometimes takes so much effort and time, that it's just not practicle not to use a wheelchair.

A couple of ex-Army friends of mine are freefall parachuting and "Stump Men" (stunt men) in war films as they're double-amputtees. They have "Stumpies" (half false legs) that they attach and they run around like dwarfs - really funny when we're out drinking! They still use wheelchairs in their every day life as it's the most efficient way to get out and about.

Life is the best therapy! Pushing yourself in your every day life is what'll make you stronger and achieve your full potential. Get in to a sport, get fit and strong, and healthy. Go on holiday and try new things - scuba diving, sailing, swimming in the sea, jet skiing, etc. All these sort of things build up your confidence, strength and levels of mobility, plus you're living your life!

Love the motivational speech, although thats not quite the info Im looking for.

I do get out and do things, I live my life, I vacation, Im active.. and so on..

I got a taste of intense therapy at Pressing On, and Im hooked. My therapy following my injury was a joke! I was complete then, now Im incomplete.. I can move down to my hips but its so weak I want better strength training...

So yeah,, Im looking to see what PHYSICAL Benefits came from anyone who enrolled there!

Hey Ches, I don't have any experience or knowledge of the Detroit Recovery Center, but I'll see if I can track anything down.

I just wanted to ask you if you've heard of SCI-Step and their free trial week program. Looks like it might be something you would be interested in and the price is right. I plan on taking a trip up there sometime, hopefully by the end of this year.

edit: forgot to add links originally
Ches
Thanks for link, I hadnt heard of SCI-Step before.

Thats just the kind of thing Im looking for right now.. a way to test the place before I commit!
