Full Version: Finally Pregnant

Sorry I've been MIA for a bit, but I've had a lot going on. First off, I'm finally pregnant! After almost 2 years, the hubby and I did IVF in May and today at almost 9 weeks found out we're officially having TWINS! So, that was a bit of a shocker - at least it's not eight. Because of my genetic thrombophilia I'll be on the heparin injections until 28 weeks. However, the fertility doctor assures us that with the heparin it should be a fairly normal pregnancy.

Now, that I've cleared a big hurdle I actually have to deal with being pregnant and in a chair. As most of you know I have complete bowel and bladder, feeling ...etc, so I'm not worried about that. What I am worried about is transferring and balance. I'm a pretty mobile person hopping off my chair all the time, so It's going to be a big adjustment with a big baby belly. Also after the babies are born, I'm worried about how to even transport TWO! I have a great family support (my mom and aunt live quite close by) and I know I'll be relying on them a ton. Hubby wants to help in any way he can, and I know he'll be a great dad.

Any tips for me on being pregnant and being in a chair? Any devices you found that helped you care for your baby - especially for a C5 quad like the hubby. Thanks guys smile.gif

Just wanted to say congrats! I've been wanting to ask how the ivf went, but didn't want to seem like a stalker smile.gif When it rains, it pours! I don't have any real advice, except for I bet you figure out the balance thing quicker than you think. My hubby's a quad and we've used slings, and a baby bjorn (he's been a pretty involved uncle to lots of babies) We've daydreamed stuff up for the day that we have a baby (maybe)...like a pacifier necklace for him and a customized sling.

Sorry not much help, just so excited for you and wanted to say congrats!

OMG!! Congrats!! One thing I will say is.... the Axis carseats( http://www.bebeconfort.com/collection-2009...ture_axiss.htm). Definatly a sling each! I made myself a bamboo velour and linen "Mei Tai" so I could babysit my friends little girl.. I'll get a picture of her in it next time I'm there, its very comfy, and I've made it so when its forward facing the babies legs cant get near the wheels.. I'll get pics smile.gif

Thanks guys for all the wonderful congratulations & well wishes. We're still on cloud nine. I'll definitely have to update you guys on what's going on periodically. Thanks for all the tips too. And who knows ... with hubby being an engineer (and me a designer) I'm sure we'll both design some pretty crazy baby "devices" ourselves. Thanks again guys!!!! ... smile.gif

I could not be happier, Karen,,,, Babies are a hoot,, although two at once sounds a little daunting.

This will not be the toughest thing either you or your hubby have had to deal with,,, it'll be a piece of cake for you. At least it will seem like it was when they start to college.

My congratulations and my love.

DOUBLE congrats! cheers.gif ( <----- that's for hubby YOU don't get anymore of that stuff. This is for you ------> ) hug.gif

Well I had C'sections with all 4 of mine. OMG once they cut into those ab muscles. Lifts & transfers go from normal routine to "OMG it feels like I weigh 300lbs!". THAT sidelined me & made it so I had to be helped just to sit up for a good week or so afterward. I used those little carriers that everyone uses to carry babies around on their front. When the kids were teeny tiny I had them face my font when they got a bit bigger & turned them around or turned the carrier around so they were sitting on my lap with their legs in same direction as mine. When they outgrew those carriers a belt (just a good ole fashioned belt with a buckle & holes to allow them to grow & still work) around the 2 of us did the job & off we went. But mind you I only had mine one at a time so on carting around 2 I guess like most parents of twins......buy 2 pouches & stick one on hubby; I'm assuming so long as you've got it properly fitting him & then put one of them in he should at least be able to carry one & you carry the other. I do however have a confession to make.......once they got to be about 20lbs or so if they fell asleep on the floor I either had someone else pick them up or I let them nap where they crashed. blushing02.gif But anyhow.......congratulations!!! clap.gif

i read that having a boppy is a really good investment. they are used for breat feeding and proping babies up. your hubby can help with bottle feedings with this too. all you do is fit it around your waist and voila! or so i heard...

congratulations and I hope all goes well.

I had 3 babies while being in a chair.

The biggest being almost 9lbs.

All were natural deliveries and I manage to push them all out-I'm t10 btw..

Slings are really good and you can get some lovely ones now or experiment by making your own-that's all my non-disabled daughter has ever used.

BTW-I am expecting another baby any day now. Her 3rd child is a nail biting 8 days over due date. She went 10 and 12 ays over with her other two-and I just hate it.

This is my 5th grandchild -and I'm expecting my 6th next year-and it's all good!
