Never seen them but if I was able to choose an experience of a lifetime then this would be my first choice. I hope you get to see them...and make sure you tell us all about it if you do!

I have seen them here in Canada.

As you are in the UK...a simple trip to Norway, and a w/c friendly trip on the train to a northern town should suffice. You will have to research the time of the year...probably mid autumn...as you need shorter days...and longer nights, and for it to me not too cold.

Norway is one of the best countries in the world for access.

For North Americans reading this....a flight to Edmonton, Canada, should land you in the nothern lights.

Cheers...Walt!

From what I understand September to March is best time to see the Auroras. Norway is supposed to have the most stunning view ever.

I spent some time looking into cruising around Norway or ever Greenland, to see all the wonders.. bad news is its crazzzzzzzy expensive. I think the cheapest I found was 8,000 USD for a 10 night cruise.

If you want to be super detailed when planning the trip, check out the moon cycle and try to be there when there is NO MOON present. Should help the view some!

Hi Mark,

As said below its quite easy to get to Norway and the place you want to head for is Tromso. You can fly to Oslo with Ryanair/BA/SAS and then get an SAS flight up to Tromso and then book yourself into the Scandic hotel which has accessible rooms. Only drawback is 'the lights' can't be guaranteed and can go for weeks without being seen so choose your dates carefully. even if you don't see its a great part of the country to explore.

Don't bother taking the train unless you want to spend 24hours on it or a cruise unless you want to spend big money.
