I wanted to throw a question out here, just something I'm curious about and also to bitch a little. As you all know there are a lot of places out there such as Project Walk, Pressing On, and SCI Step just to name a few. These places are GREAT and I'm not knocking them in any way at all as far as their programs. However, they can cost anywhere up to $125 AN HOUR for therapy. I understand that any business has it's own expenses, but let's fact it, we are all on a limited budget, most of us living on Social Security and/or dwindling funds from settlements. SO with all that said--how much, in your opinion, should be charged for this kind of therapy, or rather how much WOULD you pay to attend a place like this?? In MY opinion, if they didn't charge so damn much they would be able to get more business and more long term business. I go to one of these places, I'm still making progress and love going where I'm at and don't want to stop or even cut back, BUT I can't afford to keep going as much as I am (6 hrs a wk). I don't like any of my choices. If they are REALLY there to help us, why is it so unaffordable to keep going or even get there in the first place? I think it's an opportunity ALL of us should have but don't mostly because of cost. Ok, enough ranting!! What's your opinion??

To answer my own question I would be more than happy to pay $50 an hour

I agree with you...It is like anything else to do with handicap stuff..Way over priced.Like these wheelcair's 2 and 3 thousand bucks..Whats the deal. Now try to buy parts. If you want to do anything it takes money and a lot of it.

Brokeback Brenda,
Yes it is expensive and yes the centers like Project Walk or Roll 2 Walk are all helping alot of people. Maybe if these places would get some federal funding to pay their staff and physical therapists this would help with keeping the costs down for the client. Right now all the monies that these places make in when they have their openhouse or get-togethers to show what they have at their facilities. My daughter is interested in going through Roll 2 Walks' program here in Austin, but it's going to cost us $100 an hour for the therapy. The place PushToWalkNJ.org I read is $85 an hour and is alot bigger therapy gym than what we saw in Austin at Roll 2 Walk. Also some places offer a grant to attend if you are limited on funds. Have you tried getting a private trainer? Some charge $50 - $75 an hour. The next problem is finding a gym that is equipped for a person in a w/c. Try looking at some of your universities for trainer and equip.

I understand all this, but my question way how much do YOU think it should be or rather what could you AFFORD TO PAY?? Right now I'm going to Pressing On in San Antonio, paying $85 an hour, $2210 a month. I think it's crap that I have to pay that much every month and for how long?? I just want some opinions not advice--thank you tho

Now I get it,,, you want someone to agree with you,,,,, Yeah ,, that is a load of cash to spend.... How's that?

All prices for everything SCI related are high. Whether they should be that high is a tough one.

In your case, is the session one to one? Is the place you go to get the therapy, in a clean and well appointed area? Is it in an area where you feel safe in going? Are there qualified personel available, should some unforseen medical problem arise?

I guess the answer to your question can be summed up by adding together all the wages, equipment and building rentals, taxes, and the miscellaneous costs at the place you go,, then devide that by the number of people they serve,, and you have the amount you should be paying. And that would be for a nonprofit agency.

Have you considered hiring your own personal trainer and doing this stuff at home. I'm fairly confident that you could find one for less than that $85 per hour you already spend. OOPs,,, that would be advice you've already been given, wouldn't it?? Sorry.

I, too, consider many of the prices for the stuff we need are too high. But then,,, so is the price of gas. About forty or so years ago a guy managed to freeze both prices and wages,,, what did that get him?
