Can anyone shed some real life experience on having ostemyelitis? my bf has had it for over a year after an unbelieveable chain of events...he had surgery to have the bone scrapped for the second time today and i/we have no idea what this is going to mean for the future....SCARED!

I fought that crap in my right hip, then pelvis.... Had numerous bone scraping operations......

Finally lost my right leg because of it.......

I've had Osteomyelitis twice. The first time was in my right iccium (spelling?) way back in 1960. Its the pointed bone you sit on.

It was caused by an infection and as I have full sensation it was excruciatingly painful. I had the deep seated abscess removed and my bone chopped away and haven't had any problems with that side again.

About 19 years ago I had the same problem on my left buttock, which again was excruciatingly painful. If the person cant feel the pain, then the first signs are usually a small sinus on the surface of the skin.

I had the abscess, the size of an orange removed and my left bone chipped away. My stay in hospital was 5 weeks, then I was allowed to sit up for 30 minutes.

As my late wife was a nurse and we had good equipment at home I was discharged from hospital. It was a gradual process of sitting up for longer periods each day; this took about 6 weeks.

I'm glad I did it slowly, as I've had no problems with either buttock since.

I hope I've been able to help but all I can tell you is of my own experiences and that everyone is different. I'm a C4/5 incomplete and been injured over 50 years.
