How many times can you have flap surgery on the same sore ? I'm going for a second is this unusual head_brick_wall-1.gif

I had a muscle flap done about two years after my accident (age 16) and then out of nowhere on my 23rd birthday it reopened. I eventually got fed up with bed rest and decided to have a second surgery.

My second surgeon was way better than the first surgeon!

I guess it depends where the pressure sore is and figure out what is causing it not to heal properly. I know the second time mine reopened was because I was sitting waaaaay too long!

I did twice on same spot within 4 months of each other. It sucked and needless to say, looks ugly. They also shaved some of the sit bone off on that side.

I'm not sure, but if you go for hyperbaric treatments, you can get a skin flap preservation which will help it heal better. And the GREAT news is that if your doctor orders hyperbaric treatments for a skin flap preservation, most insurance companies will pay for it. This is one of the few ways insurance will pay for it. Hyperbaric treatments are experimental for spinal cord injuries, so this may be a good opportunity for you to not only get a preservation of the flap, but get to try out the treatments and have insurance pay for it. It's about $2000-3000 each treatment if you were paying out of pocket. Some people have regained feeling and movement from the treatments.

According to my surgeon, it depends on what kind of flap is done (he's a plastic surgeon out of Mayo clinic in AZ). It also depends if you have enough muscle and skin to move to that area.
