Me and my boyfriend (C6) are going on our dream trip to vegas in march, we really wanted to see some racing so are waiting for the NASCAR dates to be confirmed then we will book, we really want to stay at planet hollywood has anyone been? Also in regards to the NASCAR be great if anyone that has been to the las vegas speedway can tell us what its like for wheelchairs, like travelling too and the viewing platform (if any?!) also if you get reduced rate?

Any help would be much appreciated, this is our first trip to the US we are soooooo excited!

i lived in vegas last year. my favorite hotel was the tropicana. beautiful waterfall pool however they are tearing it down not sure when that is going to take place. i have been to the speedway however i did not notice the wheelchair access. i was not with my boyfriend that is in a chair back when i lived there. he can prob get around pretty easy there since the strip has most everything you will need. call the speedway and ask these questions i am sure an employee could answer them all. have a blast!!

Can't say much about Vegas hotels, but I did work at Daytona International Speedway and was in the guest services department. I've also been to the speedway. Since the tracks are owned by the same company, I'm thinking the policies are probably similar, though.

In general, tracks have accessible parking for each section of stands. You're best bet is to call ahead and find out which one you need to be at. Daytona accepted reservations for parking. They also would try and accommodate any requests for getting from your car to your seat and back again. It is also better if you call ahead about this, as it eliminates a lot of confusion once you get there. There are elevators to get to the grandstands for those who need them. Once you get to the grandstands, there can be some steep inclines, although I seem to remember Vegas not having anything particularly steep, especially when compared to some other tracks.

I doubt you can get a reduced rate, but it never hurts to try. ;)

thanks guys! im really quite nervous been to a few race tracks in U.k but they are probably really tiny compared to speedways in U.S! And I will keep my eye out for kyle bush, nails will be fine I wouldn't want to waste any beer!

I can never understand this so called sport. Cars speeding round and round in circles, some dropping into the pits then back out again. I've no idea who's in the lead plus the endless commentary is irritating. I'd much rather watch our Formula 4 or our Sports Cars, or even Superbikes; at least the track is more interesting, with gear changes and skill.

I bet us wheelies could put on a better show... watch out Greybeard I'm overtaking!! That' got rid of CR...

Get a seat up in the higher sections. My first year at Daytona, I made the mistake of getting a bottom row seat. In spite of security, the other spectators prefer to stand along the fence between you and the track, ruining what you would think are the best seats. Maybe i just have bad luck but everybody who goes to the races has a handicap parking permit and even though i had a reserved numbered spot, it had been given away by the time i arrived an hour early.

Ahhh, the Superbikes...Amazing machines. As are Formula cars. The other REALLY fun races are WRC and Baja.

Tim, I agree with you, higher up is better. I actually think that the higher seats are better at a race, anyway. It isn't like a concert where the best seats are the lowest. Especially at the super speedways, like Daytona and Vegas. At best, you can only see the area right in front of you.

As for spectators standing in front, that is against track rules (you aren't even suppose to walk close to the track for safety purposes) but people will do as they want for as long as they can get away with it. If this happens, you should tell an official or a track employee, especially if they don't seem to have any interest in moving on. Or, if you are brave enough, tell them to move. They aren't suppose to be there and track personnel will back you up. At the end of the day, there is always going to be some inconsiderate jerk around, and as hard as tracks try, it will still happen.

Tim, I hope this doesn't come across as condescending (meant to be informative), but an hour before the start of the race is not considered getting there early. Parking and gates usually open up well before race time, early in the morning. Even if you have an assigned spot, it can be given away if you aren't there by the time the pre-race ceremonies start. If it was before, someone screwed up. Like I said before, tracks try very hard to be accommodating, but nothing works perfectly when so much is trying to be coordinated at one time.

misstd, I have no idea what tracks are like in England, but I do know the races here are a hulluva lot of fun. There is tons of activity and energy, so if you plan ahead (and it is important to get as much squared away to make it as easy on you as possible) and try to go with the flow if things don't work perfectly, you will still have a great time. I still love going to races and I don't even really follow it since I left that job.

Yeah, I kind of figured the "hour isn't really early" thing out when I got there, place was packed and everybody was already wasted. I ended up with a much better parking spot than the h/c one they gave away but that may not happen to everyone.

As far as standing in front of the fence, security was all over the place but people would just stroll slowly along, stand awhile, get told to move, stroll along...hundreds of them back and forth the whole race.

Live and learn i guess.

My advice would be have fun. We almost raced in vegas, but they had their own whiney truck series running 305's and automatics that we woulda embaresed the hell outta. Pussies.

Booked Tickets yay! seats are section 4 row 31 so I have no idea if high up or not? when we go to races in this UK people always stand in front so annoying, donnington is by far the worst, people cram onto the disabled platform whether disabled or not so frustrating! We arent hiring a car so will either get a taxi or public transport?? I hope that isn't going to be too traumatic!

I don't really follow NASCAR (my boyfriend does) but think im more excited about the whole experience love racing so should be really good. We both love the bikes, but they not on at vegas so nascar wins! lol
