hello
I have extension in my right wrist which enables me to use the tena disis (properly spelt wrong!) Gripping technique between my thumb and index finger which I think a lot of people at my level use to pick things up. Unfortunately my grip is very weak only allowing me to pick up the lightweight items.
I met someone recently at a rugby tournament who was the same level as me and he had a very useful arm splint type thing made from aluminiu with a pivot type mechanism across the index finger and thumb. This almost spring-loaded and greatly accentuatedthe strength of his grip enabling him to pick up much heavier items and also provides much more flexibility in terms of being able to everything with one splint rather than having one that my toothbrush, one for eating etc.
Itwould be difficult for me to explain exactly how this thing works however I took a few photos which I think demonstrates it quite well.
If anyone knows of a supplier of this item please let me know? The person I met bought it from a company who were going round the wards at Cardiff's spinal injury clinic. However this was 30 years ago so not sure who they were and whether they still exist.
Thanks
j
