Lately when my husband is sleeping he sweats alot. When I wake up in the morning the bed is soaked, even where I am sleeping. This didn't use to happen (we've been together for 4 years).
He has a pressure sore on his ankle and he's going to the doctor tomorrow. It is quite bad looking, the skin around it has even turned a greyish/black and I wouldn't be surprised if it is down to the bone and it sure smells like it's infected. I've been reading about Autonomic dysreflexia and I'm wondering if this is why he is sweating so much. I'm wondering what I can do to help him, I'm very concerned that his blood pressure is high and I'm not sure what to do about it. He is not worried about it and has a very laid back attitude about the whole thing.
Thanks,
Dawn

All I can say is, sounds like he isn't going to the doctors FAST enough. Your right . . . . .sounds like AD from the wound, but I'm sure the doctor will best make that assumption. I'd have gone when I saw black, let alone smelled it.
Good luck

I agree with qbounce, sounds like he's overdue for the doctor. If he complains of a sudden headache, flushed feeling, or any of the other AD warning signs, get him to the emergency room. Does he have a wallet card explaining AD? We are often warned that most doctors don't know what it is, so it's up to the patient and/or caregiver to clue them in.
And I understand exactly when you say that he's unconcerned - my b/f is the same way. They wouldn't be so laid back about it if they could feel it, that's for sure!!!
Tom also sweats at odd times too - and only on one side.
Good luck - do what you can to help him understand that this is not something to mess around with. SCI is bad enough; you don't want to add a stroke on top of it.

both of the above are correct,i had a uti last month and sweated in bed for a few nights with joints aching etc, especially at the site of the break, they gave me antibiotics and i felt better, now only last week i had the same again!! i got some antibiotics from the doc and she sent my sample away for analysis as she said its unusual to have them in such a short timespan.
maybe i did'nt clear it last time? these are the first utis in EIGHT years!!

Thanks, I'm not sure how I'd actually "make" him get to the hospital, if it seemed serious though I would call an ambulance. I'm hoping the doctor will scare him into caring abit more and I'll update after the appointment tomorrow. Oh, I was wondering if sweating could be the only sign of raised blood pressure? Wouldn't he have other signs as well?

it could easily be the infection causing a fever. you sweat when you come down from a fever. he needs that looked at ASAP like now take him to the ER if you have to. if the infection goes untreated he will turn septic which is an infection in the blood and boy you don't want to mess with that. sepcis kills people all the time. my boyfriend got a pressure sore on his back and as soon as it started becoming a sore he was already septic. which is why he is in a skilled facility right now. he has to have iv antibiotics he has been on them for almost two months. the infection is gone now thank god but he has to stay on the meds until the wound is totally closed up. infections from those are really serious. becareful with not waiting. let us know how it goes. good luck
