Hi. I've been a c5/6 quad for over 20 years, but I'm new to the UK benefits system as I just relocated here.

In the course of my online research, I came across an article detailing the reasons NHS Continuing Care was preferable to Personal Care offered by Local Councils. I thought the relevant article/information was found on this forum, but even after searching on a number of key words I can't seem to find the info I was looking for.

Could anyone point me to site containing the 'lost' information I'm seeking? I promise I'll bookmark it this time ....

You may find that the choice is not one or the other, Local Authorities only fund Social and Personal Care. The NHS only medical care although the line is not a clear one.

The main differences are that Council Care is chargeable and NHS is free at the point of use. With council care you can have what is called Direct Payments and employ the staff of your choice, the NHS cannot make Direct Payments and will employ a care agency over which you may have little control. I don't know what your immigration status is and that might complicate things as well.

I'm a UK citizen, so thankfully I don't need to deal with immigration issues. Returning to the country after a long absence is complicated enough, doubly so as I became disabled while overseas.

As regards the current topic, I was particularly interested in the linkage tobetween Council care and Independant Living Fund quotas. I've managed to find an alternate source of info which answers my questions.
