So my boyfriend had a blood clot a few months ago and was on medication for it. And I'm guessing they took him off it after awhile or either lowered the dose(they never tell him anything!) because now he has ANOTHER one!! I was really upset when he told me that, because he was still supposed to be on the medication for the first one. So now he has one in each of his legs and his newest is much bigger..

So my thing is, IS THIS GONNA BE FOREVER? Ok, so I KNOW this is something that he is gonna have to deal with, but are there any OTHER ways to help prevent them other than medication? Because right now his is really big and of course the doctors are freaking him out by telling him what could happen..

I dunno i guess I just needed to vent..But If anyone has dealt with this PLEASE offer any suggestion you may have, it would be such a big help!

brit hello im alex from sunderland north east coast england i was very prone to clots had 1 on my lung was given warferin for six months only about 3 month after i had another one on oposite lung then one in my leg which moved into my back caused infraction l9 10 spapped my cord im now on permanent so i dont think you can do without medication so i wish you the best of luck good health alex

Medication (warfarin, coumadin, heparin) are pretty much the only way to really lessen the chances of DVT/Clotting... There are other things that can HELP reduce the risk factor but in general if there are repeat clotting instances the doctor will keep the patient on the anti-coags.

I am on warfarin for life due to having a blood mutation that causes me to hyperclot...

There are loads of things he can do to help lessen the chances of getting more clots but if the doc is smart he will keep the medication.
