To start with i get klebsella pneumoniae. It is ironical because it is very common with women.

Ecoli seems to be the most common for me,, although there are usually a few others in there, too. I tend to let the more benign ones colonize,, unless they give me a fever I leave them alone. Only when I start getting the more flu like symptoms do I treat them with antibiotics.

Till then, it's a matter of drinking enough to keep the numbers in check by flushing them out.

Klebsiella like you, Pseudomonas, e-coli and staph aureus seem to come up a lot. Women are generally more prone to them than men, mainly because the female urethra is shorter. There is no specifically female bacteria although the most common bladder infection is e-coli which mainly lives in the bowel.

Bacteria can be either more or less serious because of their level of resistance to antibiotics. I have had e-coli infections which are resistant to all oral antibiotics but one available outside a hospital whereas e-coli is usually susceptible to a number of antibiotics. Make sure you take acidophilus with your antibiotics and stick to the full course unless told to stop by your doctor. If you don't take part of the course then you may find your bugs become more resistant as they can mutate to become antibiotic resistant if they aren't all killed off.

Also, acidophilus contains the good bacteria which should be found in a normal human gut. Antibiotics kill them off and then you get imbalances causing an overgrowth of the wrong bacteria in the gut.

I wonder if my having a colostomy bag is the reason for my constant klebsiella attacks?
