Question about spasams, ive just started taking baclofin . The question is''besides the spasams doing what they do'' is there any harm if u dont take the meds? Ive had to get on them because my legs were starting to kick out and would be stiff like a old ironing board. Can spasams hurt you internally?

It depends on your dosage. I take a very low dose (10mg x3 per day) and have forgotten to take my evening pill (which results in waking me up about 4:00 am with spasms). But if you're on a higher dosage it's not a good idea to just stop taking your Baclofin cold-turkey. Personally, I don't understand why anyone would want to choose suffering spasms over taking meds. I don't like the idea of being medicated, but I think we have to make the most of our situation, which means taking advantage of modern medicine's benefits. But that's just how I roll...

I completely agree with kwag, be very careful about just stopping baclofen, it should be weaned off or you will suffer the consequences! Get advice from your doctor

Yeah Baclofen has to me weaned off, especially those who are on high doses.
I'm only taking 20mg twice a day now and thats the minimum i can take. I have tried stopping Baclofen many times, especially the days when i was low and couldn't be bothered to pick up my next prescription coz i'd ran out. But after 3 days without any in my system thats when things get tricky and damn right annoying, My legs would twitch and spasm at the slightest movement, so pushing my chair was pretty impossible and the worst was when my stomach would think, hmmm lets give him a big spasm and throw him backwards lol. Oh and night time was bad too, there's no way i could sleep, no matter what position i was in, my legs would be going nuts. So taking 4 pills a day is fine with me!!

As far as I know spasms do not hurt you internally. All they are are flexing muscles emoticon-0165-muscle.gif All my docs, PTs, and OTs said some spasming is good because it keeps your muscles toned. I was on very low dose baclofin, 5mg twice a day, and cut it out about 2 weeks ago with no issues.

Everyone here is right! You should be "weaned" off, but there are some of us out there who have taken baclofen and it does nothing. I was on 150mg. and also 20mg. Valium. Spasms are. . . well. . . Bittersweet. The legs do move, but not by our doing. My legs will kick straight out and stay straight for 10-30 seconds, then my hips will flex almost like I am trying to make love to my wife if I were on top. I've heard of some people who can actually in a sense control there spasms by positioning and just knowing when, how, what triggers them. Many, Many different meds out there to try just remember that. Spasms can't hurt you internally, but when transfering it can be a pain in the neck!
