My bf is too shy to start on this forum so he asked me today if I would ask everyone at this AWESOME forum this question.
Ever since your accident have you had to change your eating habits. Do you eat less because of your bowel movements and bowel program?
Do any of you kind, wonderful people do the bowel prgram more then once a day?

I haven't changed my eating habots though I've found I don't need to eat so much. I never drank fizzy drinks or coffee before really and found on the one occasion I did drink caffeine drinks it increased my pee so I won't do that again lol x

I don't know what, if any, changes my fiance made following his accident, but I do know he stays away from some foods because it wrecks havoc on his bowel program. He stays away from things that are spicy, high in fat and very rarely eats dairy or anything else low fiber. He doesn't seem to eat a lot (I'm 5'2 and probably eat more than him on a given day). And he doesn't do his BP more than once a day, usually every other day.

Some have changed their BP to every other, or even every third day. Just keep it consistant. I also changed my BP and shower to night time, so it doesn't take up my day light hours.

As much time and energy as the BP takes, it's saved me so much time and energy going every other day. To add, if your BF is having bm problems, have him try using less, or no stool softeners for a spell. (Just trying to read into WHY he would find the need to go more than once in a day).
Mrs.Quinn
Well the doctors had him taking a stool softener 3 times a day so we will cut one out. But he seems to be eating more now then he did before!

I eat about a third to a quarter of what I used to but now 'go' daily rather han 2-3 times a ay (as an AB.) I play wheelchair rugby and train/lift weights 6 days a week so food, but not too much, is important for energy & recovery.

I eat a bit less as I get older, but not a whole lot. If I ate as much fruits and salads/veggies as I'd like to, I'd be crapping like a goose. So, I use moderation. I do my BP about every third day, in the evening, then transfer to bed after clean-up. I've never used or needed stool softeners. My routine works well for me and my wife.

I'd also recommend cutting back on the stool softeners. Taking a dump 2-3 times a day seems a bit excessive for an SCI. That's just my opinion.

yeah he snacks alot! but I couldn't see him not doing a bowel program every day. I guess since I use the bathroom 2-3 times a day I would feel like he should beable to go if needed

rob can't eat for a few hours after he's been up, he will go a full day and eat @ 5:00pm on some days, he said that it makes him feel sick if he eats when he gets up, if hes up at 8am then he wont eat till 12-1pm!
he said that he used to eat as soon as he woke but after the wheelchair he can't!!
Mrs.Quinn
I'm sorry! I am like that period LOL Dave gets up and he gets right away but me? he knows to wait 3 or 4 hours before i'll eat... if i had coffee? 5 or 6. If hes a late eater like me I'm pretty sure thats why
