Are men or women more likely to to be involved in a relationship where one of the two has a spinal cord injury and if so, which one? Are men or women more likely to stick by a person with a spinal cord injury?
Ches

I'll echo what Ches said and add, get your personal/spiritual/professional self together the best you can, the complications/wheels, SCI, aren't necessarily the issue. Being a scruffy kinda guy, not-your-vogue-model, looks do help, as does a fit body...but if shallow fluff is your game, grab a hand full of bills and go to the local strip club or bar...enjoy...you get out what you put in; relationships are like most things in life, it takes effort.

One of the first things my b/f asked when he was conscious (and he had to write a note since he was still on the vent) was "Are you going to stay with me?" Wow, that was a tearjerker moment! My answer was "I'm not going to leave you just because of a silly thing like being paralyzed, but I'm sure as hell not going to stay with you for that reason either."

...and so far so good!

That's an easy one to answer - I think you'll find that if you assume that in each relationship there's one man and one women then there will be an equal number of men and women involved in a relationship where one of the two has an SCI!!! If you're asking if there's more men or women who have SCI's who are in relationships then that's easy too -it's men simply because there's a much higher number of men with SCI's than women.

It's pretty tough to find anything when you're stuck in the f*@king hospital for 8% of your life and 77% of the total time since getting f*@king gimped. But that's probably my fault. Would be nice if I had a f*@king doctor who didn't disappear for 3 days at a time cus his wife's a whore and would give me a strait f*@king answer instead of making f*@king promises then f*@king me over!

In your relationship, who has the SCI?
Are you:
A female with SCI with an AB husband/boyfriend [ 1 ] [4.35%]
A male with SCI with an AB wife/girlfriend [ 5 ] [21.74%]
An AB female with a husband/boyfriend who has SCI [ 6 ] [26.09%]
An AB male with a wife/girlfriend who has SCI [ 1 ] [4.35%]
None of the above/single [ 10 ] [43.48%]

Being born on the 13th, I always was an awkward child.
I Fall into the latter group as "None of the above."
I am the SCI my hubby is the AB
We were a couple for 17yrs prior to the SCI.
25th anniversary in Dec 09.

So why in the 21st century do some folk still presume that all couples are male/felmale?

come on guys update yourselves not just your pc's.

An another thing, there was no option for an SCI with a disabled or limited partner.

Looks help but any relationship based on physical appearance is superficial and won't last long. I was referring to long term relationships; people that stick it out over the long haul. Guess I should have been more specific?

Have to agree with Chez on this one. Wise words.
