Spina-bifida/congenital scoliosis from birth. Following a cord untethering in '03 (24 hrs. worth of surgery in five days) I had what is believed to be a spinal cord stroke, which resulted in paralysis.
Incomplete para (don't know the exact level...just pick one...they're all a mess

) But probably upper lumbar region.

Had a blood-filled cyst at the t2-t3 level which compressed the spinal cord. Was paralyzed for over a week from just below the rib cage on down. Was in rehab over a month. Slowly learned to walk again. Have residual weakness from abdomen on down to feet along with balance problems and spasticity in the legs and feet. Weakened pelvic girdle and hips now turn out. Have had to have a hand brake and throttle installed on vehicle and use a motorized scooter to get around.

I am a T10 Complete para since February 14, 1989. Wow time does fly quickly!
Well here I am with all of you ... and for me, with the summer off, three days into my vacation, I was just doing the Internet thing and found this wonderful forum.
I am your early, okay your mid-forties gentleman and this forum and site looks and sounds like a wonderful place to share, add my two cents and ask those questions we all probably have.
My short story ... was that I was heading to a ski resort when I came across black ice under fresh snow. The laws of physics being what they are I managed to to do a triple "clutz" and wound up sliding off the road and down an embankment. The nice part was this was just a one vehicle accident and nobody else was with me nor was any other vehicle involved. To answer your silent question, no I wasn't speeding and I was wearing my seat belt.
Needless to say there is a significantly longer story ... but I am going to just indicate that on that infamous day, I managed to avoid paying the ski lift fees and also got a helicopter ride back to the city!
I am looking forward to sharing my experiences gained over time, learning about the new and many things I might have missed in life and meeting wonderful new people here on this forum!
Always with JOY,
William
P.S. Obviously I haven't figured out how to post a message here and include more than one emoticon.

I had a spontaneous spinal extradural haematoma on September 30th 2004, at age 27.
Huge chest pain one morning, then lost use of legs - whisked to hospital where paralysis went up to chest. That day had a 5 hour operation to remove the huge bleed.
I was a T2 complete para then, and I still am.

I am a T12-L1 incomplete para - I was knocked down by a lorry and dragged 22 feet before the vehicle was stopped. I broke my back, my left leg was amputated above knee and I also had my left index finger amputated.
My accident occurred on the 1 December 2003. I was in intensive care and high dependency units of the Royal Victoria Hospital for 7 weeks and then transferred to the Spinal Cord Unit at Musgrave Park Hospital where I began my rehabilitation. I was discharged at the end of April 2004 and am now getting on with the rest of my life

My partner, Natalie, is a T2/3 incomplete after a car accident (thrown clear of the car when her parents tried to dodge a kangaroo and ran off the road) when she was 18mths old. So its been about 20 ½ years. Doctors took about 6mths to realise she had a SCI and by then the damage was already done.

I thought of all the places in the world Bruce was the safest at work...wrong!!!
He drove too fast, hunted hogs with his bare hands, shot guns all the time, drank and did stupid stuff, raced boats, and was trying to become a cop. I'm not surprised it happened, but I'm surprised at how it happened!
