Hi everyone!
I'm a 25 year old para (incomplete T12 ) and my OB has never had a patient in my situation, so I'm looking for as much info as possible.
I'm planning to get pregnant as soon as possible, but my biggest worry at the moment is the effect of my medicines on my future baby.
I am paralyzed since 5 years and I have found the "perfect" medicine to control my highly spastic bladder: 12mg(3 capsules) of Detrusitol Retard per day.
Without taking my medicine I have accidents of incontinence every 10-30min, as a consequence I really dread having to stop taking them!
I wanted to know if any of you have found themselves in my situation and if yes, I would like to know if you decided to stop, keep or change your medications.
Please let me know your advice....

Hi , I will be 30 in september I am a para T-6 T-7. I to have a very spastic bladder. My husband and I are tring to have a baby to. I am on oxybutynin 5 mg. 2 tabs in morning and 2tabs bedtime.This medicine is the generic for ditropane XL. We have visited the doctor and talked about what we was going to do and he said great. I had a baby at age 29, 7 years post injury. I was not taking incontinence medications at the time. I did not notice much of an increase in incontinence. But I did get terrible bladder infections despite taking Macrodantin to prevent them. I have an augmented bladder which produces mucus and the mucus got thick and brown and I was hospitalized twice for pyelonephritis. I also had 3 weeks of C. diff diarrhea from antibiotics. Everything I ate came out. I was hospitalized for the last month of my pregnancy because the kidney infection was making me go into premature labor. I had to have constant fetal monitoring and then they induced my labor at 36 weeks. In the end I had a healthy baby and it was worth all the trouble. I also had nausea and vomiting throughout the entire pregnancy and some 2nd trimester bleeding episodes (very scary) for which no cause was found. But things don't always go this way. It sounds like you can take your incontinence medicine and hopefully avoid infections...good luck

We went to see our OB few weeks ago, for what they called a pre pregnancy counceling meeting!.. It was just a meeting with a couple of docs to prepare them and me when I do eventually get pregnant. My concern was the oxybutynin 20mg through the day and she said there was no research into this, and went to ask the urologist, he came back with ..."if the gains outway the negatives, take it"... I was bemused too. I would prefer not to be taking anything atall but like you I couldnt through the day without a few accidents, its my magic not pee'd myself drug!
