Well everyone told me it would be too hard but i took the YZ to the dunes anyway, we scoped out a section of dunes on the quad first and then went out on 2 wheels. This is the most fun ive had since motocross before i broke my back. The dunes were awesome and it wasnt too hard to stay on the bike at all even in the soft sand. Was hittin the dune in the photo in 4th gear smile.gif We rode for nearly 2 days straight, feeling so comfortable on the YZ now, feels like i never stopped riding.

For now ive got a stick rigged up to the gear shifter so it was great to have some gears but taking your hand off the bars to change gears was less than ideal.... the clutch got a good workout haha.

Marcel,
That's Sweeeet!!! you like like your tearing it up out there, keep it up! you really should think about an electronic shifter though.

Ricky is going down to Baja mexico in the next week or so to start some pre running of the 500 course, the race is in June. I'll keep you posted about his adventures.

By the way Ricky has been hanging with one of your country men, Chad Reed quite a bit latley.

Take care,
Rick

Man, that is awesome....I can't wait to get on 2 wheels again. Once I get into my new house and get settled in and I can afford to get a used bike, I am going to try it. It is going to be awesome. Only I'll be on the road course track dragging pegs.

Andrew,

Yeah i had about 3-4 stacks but thats over two days of solid riding so not too bad, they were just washouts in corners mainly because i didnt catch the right gear and couldnt take my hand off to change gears as i came into a corner. Soon as the engine boggs down mid corner in the deep sand you end up on the ground.

Rick,

Im going to be using a dual ram air shifter for my gears. The stick was only ever a temporary solution. Fingers crossed i will have all the components for the shifter by the end of the week, that will make a big difference especially on the 125.

It's awesome Ricky is doing the Baja, i look forward to hearing about his progress. Man i was so sore after riding for 2 days, i can imagine the Baja is going to be real tough on Ricky and just making it to the end will be a great achievement.

Go for it man. A road bike is something i defiantly want to try in the near future and should be a lot easier on the body than riding dirt.... I've spent many a time drooling over the R1's at my local bike shop. You'll love getting back on 2 wheels, theres nothing quite like it.

Rooost,
I am amazed, awed might be more discriptive. And very envious .

I would love to get back on my bike. I hope you don't mind a few questions. I've always been pretty much a loner, with not a lot of friends, particularly those who ride. It seems to me that I could easily ride and stay upright while moving ( barring deep sand or mud) but getting started and stopped have me stumped. How do you keep it up when you stop? How do you get started in the first place? I 'd love to try it ,but if it takes too many "spare hands" I think I'll have to stick to four wheels. I don't get the same rush on a quad that I got on my bike, but it's better than nothing.

Keep rollin, dude. Two wheels, four wheels , Just make it happen!!!!

Edlee,

At first you defiantly need a lot of help (2 people is good), just get someone to hold the bike while you get on and take off and catch you when you want to stop. I always go riding with friends anyway even on the raptor, its just too dangerous to be stuck out there on your own. Every time i ride im getting more independent though, i can now get someone to take the bike off the trailer and lean it up against the trailer, from there i can get on and take off with very little assistance from one person. Im going to make a little clamp to hold the bike up against the trailer, with that i should need no help at all once the bike is off the trailer. For stopping i ride up along side the trailer, stop and lean the bike up against it (the nurf bars make this quite easy). If i need to stop during a ride i just give my mate the signal and he catches me, if there are trees around or even someone with a quad i just stop up against that. You really want to get your self a good riding buddy, i've found most people are pretty intrigued by a para riding an MX bike so they are quite willing to help, my wife is very supportive and helpful too. Like anything it will be difficult at first but the more you do it the easier it gets and riding 2 wheels is so rewarding any effort you put in you will get back ten fold in enjoyment.

Good luck!

Heya Matty!

Hmmm dont talk to me about gear changers mad.gif ..... Im still waiting for Saf to get his sh!t together. Im putting my lighting coil on the bike this weekend so i can get some 12 volt goodness. I may just steel the changer off the Raptor for now dunno.gif

Where going to the Whitsundays 23rd April for 2 weeks so if theres any chance of catchin up let me know.

I recon when yous come over we should try and get up to the dunes, theres awesome hits everywhere, that vid is only like 2% of the jumps we found out there. And the sand is nice and soft when you stack it haha

Good luck at Wakefield man, sounds like fun esp the 900!!

Catch u soon.

Marcel
