Full Version: Martial Arts And Jujitsu
Quadriplegic & Paraplegic Spinal Cord Injuries > Disabled Living & Spinal Cord Injuries > Sports for Disabled > Extreme Wheelchair Sports

Hello,

I would like to know who is interested in martial arts such as jujitsu. I have been training in jujitsu for 10+ yrs and hold a 2nd degree in Small Circle jujitsu. As a paraplegic, jujitsu seems to be very well suited since it involves choking, grappling, joint locks, and hand striking. All things that can be done either in or out of the wheelchair.

Anyone else interested ?

I have also posted regarding self-defense. But this post is about extreme sports not self-defense.

the links to a few videos showing techniques are below:

Hi Erik

Very interesting... congratulations on your hard work and for making the effort to bring this to our attention.

I'm a big fight-fan and involved in fight-promotions also - might have a fighter entering the UFC soon! Our last fight-night was on July 21st in a bull ring - excellent night! See more at www.dynamiteportugal.com

I wonder if we'll ever see wheelchair users fight it out in the ring/cage?

Very nice Erik. I love the bite, finger bend back, headlock move... looks very effective smile.gif

Good work on the videos too, thanks for posting.

The only one I have found to be truly practical is Krav Maga.
That was when I was AB and currently.
Just my opinion.

I'd like to know more about training jiujitsu as a paraplegic? smile.gif

I'd love to get back into the martial arts again . Jiujutsu would be cool. I was a black belt in Tae Kwon Do when I was AB and havent even looked into adapting it to disabled, just too much kicking involved in that sport.

I'd love to be able to get some kind of martial arts training, be it jujitsu or krav maga. For a while I was considering talking to Wounded Warriors to see what they can offer (though technically I wouldn't be able to use their services). Either way, I'll be watching this thread for more info!

Why watch this thread and wait for info? You're a Marine and history tells us you guys lead the way, so create something.

UFC started out with only big ideas and dreams, and now look at it - a multi-million dollar industry that's boosting the growth of MMA.

Speak to Gracie BJJ gyms in your area - MMA gyms, etc.

Don't just talk about it, do it!

Only by heart. Accident was long before I was old enough to become one in actuality.

I will. ^^ Its hard to connect to people where I am, so I've got to do that now. T_T I'll google those names and see what I get though.

I had to get P.E. credits last semester at the college I attend and somehow I let some friends talk me into signing up for a martial arts class and ended up having a blast. All it takes is a little modification. I can't use my legs but my well conditioned arms can kick some ass! I take the class every time it's offered now. Thanks for the video links! I can't wait to show them to my instructor! biggrin.gif

Jiujutsu is usefull and cool MA.
Used to be into Judo and Taekwando, but now, I only trust friend of mine Mr. Glock 30. wink05.gif
