Hi,

Just saying hi new to this forum.

I have been a T4 para for 2 years following a motor cycle accident. It was just by searching the net that I came across this site, anyway, will be a regular on here.

Very good to know there is somewhere to air opinions, that is if anyone wants to listen lol, and find advice.

I used to body build before my accident, and my training has come in uesfull in recovery, and taking my aggresion out on the iron boxing.gif . I will be interested to hear if anyone weight trains, not just for rehab but as a hobby?

yes I love it. at the time of my car accident, I had just built a good base to start some serious mass-building training. We attributed a lot of my recovery to the level of fitness I was routinely maintaining.

I now work with a trainer at the gym, for both motivation and for getting and puttin back weights and a spotter for safety. I have trouble working what's below injury, but we're trying. poor signal firings make me frustrated most of the time.

Thats brilliant they said the same when i had my accident that if i was not as muscular i would not have survived the accident as i suffered other injuries 2. i lost nearly 56 pounds in weight when i was in hospital and started to hit the gym while still in hospital this made my recovery alot quicker and size came back quickly 2 although i can only train upper body now i still love working out i love to hear about others that train it helps keep me motivated also, i have put a punch bag up 2 to use while in my standing frame great for frustration releif lol mad.gif

Hi silone74 and welcome to the forum!

I figured out very quickly that my lack of upper body strength made a huge difference when it came to recovery. I never had much upper body and I'm short in stature. I mean if you put your arms at your sides and try to lift up and make your butt clear the surface that you are sitting on but your arms are the same length as your trunk and fairly weak to boot, transfers are rather difficult! I think that all of you young strong men have such an advantage.

Anyway, we're always sorry to meet a new friend under the circumstances but so happy to have you here with us.

Hi every 1 will be looking and posting on here all the time now,the short arm syndrome as the physios called it has been a pain for me 2 i have to launch myself alot of the time to do clear trasnfers arm and shoulder strength helps so much.I am going to be looking into opening a gym for wheelchair users and able bodied not only for fitness but to try and break down some barriers between us all.

i use free weights and do dumbell curls,dumbell shoulder presses and dumbell chest presses on my bed lol! cheers.gif

LOL ye man, thats what im talkin about lol love it. I had a small personal gym that just friends and myself used before my accident nothing massive but a gym for getting monster big lol i sold all of the olympic stuff when i was in a down mood stupid i know so now i just use machines at the local sports centre,does the trick though,when i was in hospital i competed in a small event power lifting, at the time i was just doing it to see what i could lift now its more about the endurance side of things and i didn't win so that put an end to that LOL my excuse was i had a bad shoulder so didn't want to hurt it any more LOL nopity.gif . I keep thinking of new ways to help with stregnth and i bought a powerball to get wrist strength up and it works really well on the wrist's and four arms great for grip on the old push rims for powering up the hills if i find any interesting ways to help i will post them on here and hope every 1 can make use of them.

Welcome to our lil home here..... Please remember to clean up after yourself, we have no maid, she quit after I spilled orange soda all over my keyboard... (I guess I thought it was thirsty)

I wish I could lift weights but I find, after holding myself up with a stupid crutch, that I am so exhausted I think my arms would fall off (we need an emote like that lol, I bet one exists someplace) if I lifted up a jar of pickles. (You shoudl SEE the jar of pickles, its huge!!! )

Thanks for the welcomes,I hope some people can come up with new ways to train and i will be keeping my eyes open for anything interesting I have just ordered a heavy grip hand exerciser for grip strentgh hope that plus the powerball wont make my wrists biger than my biceps LOL will let every 1 know how it goes.

I lifted regularly before the accident as well and of course they told me the same as ya'll that it helped in my recovery. I still get really wore out from PT though. But I Am not quiter and I still lift what I can at hom for now. Have fun here...really really great bunch of peeps!
