FREEDOM’S WINGS INTERNATIONAL
FLYING FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Freedom’s Wings International is a non-profit organization which provides the opportunity for persons with physical disabilities to fly in specially adapted sailplanes.

On Saturday, October 20th and Sunday, October 21st, Freedom’s Wings will offer free introductory rides to interested disabled individuals. The event will be hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Soaring Association at their airport in Fairfield, PA located approximately 83 miles northwest of Washington, DC.

Interested participants should call the toll free number to reserve a time slot for a 20-minute ride. There are only a limited number of flights available so call now if you want to experience the thrill of soaring.

Check out the pictures and comments from last year’s participants at our website.

Well, hell yeah! I always wanted to do this .Silently gliding through the sky .I'm a long way away , but I'm gonna try. I have a sister living real close to D.C. , maybe she can help me out. Will they let me smoke a fat one before take off? haha! I wanna go !

It shouldn't have hurt you, if the Instructor was flying correctly. I've done in the region of 800 landings and none of them have hurt me yet!!!!!

dave420atya- I hope you get to experience the thrill of Gliding. I was hooked from my first flight and now own and fly my own glider.

I flew in a pt19 wwI open cocpit byplane . A thrill ;yes .Peaceful; not even a little.I want to fly in silence, or at least no big roteray engine in my face. The passenger sits in front on those old planes.
LadyPilot
Gliding is peaceful, just the rush of the air over the big wings...............no engine to fail or catch fire.

I'm off gliding tomorrow...Click to view attachment yahoo.gif

well I did say it hurt me, but thats cause I guess the land and I had issue, with my back at the time, lol... I was a cheerleader (I can hear it now, what do you expect, I sucked at sports, so I had to have something for P.E.) and the flyer, which basically means I was tossed around a lot and not always caught.. that lasted sophmore/junior year... one drop too many, kinda did me in. It may have just been I may have tensed up when we headed for the ground.. I have not done it (gliding that is heh) since I was 17... and I am going to be 40.

I just rather jump out of the plane, thats my fav thing lol. That landing hurts more, cause I never stay on my feet, right down on my butt I go.. and while I have curves, there is not enough padding to save me, blah.

I've never understood why any sane person would leap out of an aeroplane which was perfectly capable of landing safely. mfr_lol.gif

I did my glider solo before my 16 birthday. Before I soloed, I had 3 obligatory parachute jumps which my flying club required at that time. It was in 1981.

Hi Lady!
It was in Poland. Nice article about getting silver you wrote. I did my silver when I was AB person. After SCI it is really challenge to fly cross country in glider. I always have second thoughts about off field landing without wheelchair in the plane.

Very true, which is why I never go out of gliding range of the airfield!! I fly local triangles instead, still fun and still a challenge from a flat landscape.
