I was wanting to know what all was done to it like modifications such as clutch and seat and other things. also what level of injury does the person has that rides it etc. thanks
Ketsenburg,
If you go to the "Extreme Wheelchair Sports" section of this site and look under "Check out these adaptive sports pictures" topic there are several discussions about the set up.
Ricky is using a www.rekluse.com centrifugal clutch that allows him so stop in gear and keep the bike idling and prevents stalling while braking, It's a key part of the set up as is the hydralic rear brake lever mounted on the left handle bar, it is sold by Rekluse as well. If you mention us and that you are disabled they should set you up with a discount, something Ricky set up with them to help all you guys out.
The seat is a fiberglass go kart seat with all but 5" or so cut off the back, bolted to the stock motorcycle seat base, padded and 2 velcro lap belts added. The seat gives Ricky the confidence that he won't slide off the saddle.
We use a Klictronic electronic shifter to change gears with the up shift button mounted on the left handle bar and the down shift mounted on the right side, both are operated by his thumb. we did the left/right deal to keep him from getting confused while riding.
We had Brad Mienzer (who is a para also) fabricate the nurf bars and foot pans to keep his legs and feet protected.
If you pm me your email I can send you some pictures of the set up.
Take Care,
Rick Sr.
