Please any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

In 2004 my 6 year old daughter woke up with a loss of movement in her arms which quickly (hours) spread to her torso and right leg (left leg was fine) One of her pupils also became very enlarged though it did react to light. The was no warning, no pain, no loss of any sensation. Tests have been inconclusive, there is no brain trauma, disease, etc. A small syrinx has been found in her spinal cord though her consultant says this isn't connected. She began to recover within a few days though has recovered little use of her right arm and hand. We still have no idea what happened or whether it could happen again.

Please help us if you have any information or can refer us to a neuro consultant who may be able to help.

Thanks in anticipation of your help, Lesley
Joed
The only thing I know enough about to suggest you bringing up to a neuro would be a spinal cord stroke. (?) That would have a sudden onset and could be caused by any number of things...but basically, it's a loss of blood supply to the cord.

That's so frightening for you, I'm sure...the not knowing. I would also suggest having her seen by the very best in your part of the country, if possible. Some neuros will do an initial consult and waive the fees if insurance will not cover due to being 'outside of network'. (I've grown to hate that term mad.gif )

Mine did, and I'm so very grateful, because he also helped me successfully appeal my health insurance to cover my further treatment. If not for his willingness to fight for me, I've no doubt that I'd be completely paralyzed in both legs by now, instead of one, and continuing to slowly deteriorate under the 'care' of that precious 'network'. rolleyes.gif

I wish you the best in finding answers for your daughter.

Perhaps you could go into some more detail as to where you live and what steps you have taken so far: tests, xrays, mri's etc. This is too far out of my depth to comment on, but understandably you are willing to consider all angles. Rather than rehash what you have already done, it would be better to focus on areas that have not been looked at. Knowing more detail may help trigger an idea from one of us.
