Hi gaining weight you will have to increase the calories you take in each day regular meals it is harder than people think unless you have a slow matabalism, Weight training and the correct diet will add muscle to your frame but it takes time, There are weight gainer shakes on the market but to be honest i dont believe they work ask your gp and see what shakes he can sudgest i was on some shakes when in hospital to gain some weight back as i lost alot i cant recall there name though but they can be given on prescription.
Not sure if that helps but hope so.

Take a good mullti-vitamin daily and eat before you go to bed... If ya wanna get serious mix about a pint of ice cream(vanilla) with 1/4 jar of peanut butter and blend it into a shake....CALORIE OVERLOAD!

wow, I wish i had that problem. My advice would be to smoke weed for the pain and then enjoy the munchies that came afterwards to gain weight.

Don't know what to say, Lisa?? Super-size it. . . eat more fries.
Take a weight gainer supplement, and eat extra protein, eggs in the morning, nuts for snacks (peanut butter was mentioned).
Some people have to make a conscious effort NOT to eat. . . be thankful your ass-backwards!!

Eat bread and starches like potatoes and noodles. I needed to slow down on these as they are full of cards and can put on weight fast. Sure candy and such can do that to but eating healthier is better then sweets. I love sweets to, but, everything in moderation. lol

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO... I have a fast metabalism too, always been a little person. I can't stay still the A.D.D. thing . Nothing worst than needed a good run when your in a wheelchair. I use to run the kids at our school a mile a day. It changes your brain chemicals,so we all can be calm during the day and as the sun goes down the seritonin kicks in to prepare us to sleep at night.
I want you all to know I've eaten everything you've suggested. I'll keep you posted 100 lbs will be a big day!

Try 20 mg of anabolic steroids a day with weightlifting, handcycling, pushing, ... You might be able to get a prescription from your PCP. They are expensive though and you have to monitor your liver function.
I'm 6 feet and 4 inches tall and currently weigh 140 pounds. I need to get some muscle up top and maybe if I'm lucky, a little bit of fat on my ass. Eating alone isn't doing the trick.

When I was younger I had a horrible gag reflex and didn't swallow correctly so nearly all of my nutrition came from boost/ensure/sustical... that stuff you mostly see in commercials for ederly people. It has a good amount of calories and nutrients, all your vitamens and stuff too. My cousin who was always really scrawny used to put it in his milkshakes when he was trying to gain weight for sports. It taste not to nice as first, kinda gritty, but once you get used to it it'll be hard to back to normal milk.

Thanks everyone has mentioned them to me. They all have soy in them and I'm allergic to it. I did find a Hemp Protien powder at Raleys it's got omegas 3,6,9, all aminos and minerals. I also mix it with yogurt. Then I take alfalfa, kelp, and Gotu Kola. It's a belly full for me. Thanks for caring...

Hi TiredOfHurting.
Well I'm not quite as thin as you....but pretty close 113lbs and I'm in a size 4 or 6 (considering I'm in my 30's and had 4 cesarean sections.......I feel it's too skinny for my body).
I would NOT suggest steroids! They can do terrible things to your liver, pancreas, and other things such as your own natural hormones. The reason that professional athletes are NOT supposed to use them is more than just keeping things "fair".
Yes weed does help. If it wasn't for pot I don't know how often I'd eat. When you're in enough pain where food is now the farthest thing from your mind.........that's a lot of pain. (obviously) I suggest a good chronic with lots of hairs on it........the hairs are what get you "high" and will cause an increase in apatite. I have gotten quite "high" before and still only been "yeah what ever" about food......which by the way coincidently is a four letter "F" word.

I know many people that will kill 1/2 a bag of potato chips on their own.......the results you get may be changed a bit because you're in pain and they're not.
Take a prenatal vitamin; they have %100 of daily vitamins and minerals where as most supplements only have %25-%75 of most of the vitamins. The things they tell people NOT to eat when trying to loose weight........go for the gold......drink milkshakes and eat lots of muffins and high fat foods. Around my house it's become a running gag: "Oh sure Dr.s can do blood transfusions and organ transplants.....but does anyone bother to figure out how to do fat transfusions or transplants?.......Oh no".
Best of luck to you.

Keep us posted.

Anabolic steroids can cause damage to your liver which is why a Hepatic Panel of your liver function should be done regularly while you are under treatment. As for the horror stories related to athletes, these situations are the result of steroid abuse. In other words the abusing athletes are taking large doses (> 100 mg) of steroids which the liver is unable to clear. You might want to look at the following clinical trials regarding steroid use and SCI,
There is no denying that steroid use must be prescribed and monitored by a medical professional. However their use in SCI should not be discounted simply because the media has decided to focus on their use among a few rogue professional athletes.

Sustagen?
Again, it's probably best to speak to a dietician because you don't want to start eating heaps of junk to put on weight, and then have your body adapt to a new metabolism and then have to struggle to get off junk food. Also for general health and skin integrity a balanced diet with little junk food is crucial.
After a long stay in hospital I really struggled to put weight on, I dropped down to approximately 43 kg (94.8 lb), now I am up to about 48 kg (105.82 lb). The main thing is regular and balanced meals, and protein drinks such as Sustagen or Musashi are quite helpful as well, but the former is probably better if weight is the issue.
Good luck!

If you are very underweight take it easy on the protein. Snapple type drinks, juices, including tomato and other veg, keep chocolates handy, shakes, add a snack after every meal, little debbie type or other easy snack, oat or wheat bread instead of white, sliced colby, monterey swiss mozz etc instead of american, more pastas, pies, cake.

Hi Friends, I've been eating balanced meals, and everything I can get my hands on..Went to get pump adjusted and weighed in at 99.8 Whooo hoooo. I have also been into dried fruit, lots of whol milk. Just recycled probably 16 half gallons of milk, can't lie I had the cookies or cake to go with. Can't fit in 0s,3,5s. Up to 7 but loose because of pump. I'll take it. I do feel stronger Thanks for caring....
