I am trying to find a toilet seat that has 'stoppers' which prevent a toilet seat slipping to the left or right when you sit on it. I used to see them in disabled toilets but I can't find one now for love nor money!

I am not looking for anything raised, just a normal shaped seat with the stoppers that go on the outside.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Stoppers? Hm… I’m not quite sure what you're looking for, or what you mean.

Just a suggestion: if you’re looking for something to just go on top of a regular toilet seat that's pretty sturdy, maybe try a child's cushioned "potty seat"? If you can get past the silly cartoony print they usually have, I find that it makes the toilet seat less slippery to transfer on to, and with the cushion it adds nice padding to help prevent pressure sores. You can usually find them in any major hardware store. Then again, it might be too small.

The stoppers are actually a part of the seat. If I could still find one in a public toilet I would email the council to ask who supplied them but I can't find any now - typical! haha

Pressalit care do just what you're after - the stoppers are on the inside of the bowl but the real key is a solid metal fixing and hinge at the rear. Superb pressure relieving seat but not cheap. You can get them through most care suppliers - my wife got mine at our local disability / scooter supplier - Google 'pressalit care'. They also do normal toilet seats so make sure you go to the care side of the company.

Liberty Toilet seat. I found it whilst looking for 'Pressalit care' and it's just what I need (the Pressalit range were WAY too expensive!).

....now I just have to find the best price. I do hate the 'captive audience' pricing mentality of these companies

My husband also needs someone to invent a perfect toilet cushioned seat....for years he's bought the padded toilet seats you get at Wallmart and then duck tapes them onto the toilet underneath the already hard toilet seat that's permenently attached for me his wife to use...and for others...this works great until the toilet seat gets stained (use The Works which is made to take rust off of tubs, toilets, showers that comes in well water), and also until the seat rips...but this toilet seat can easily be cleaned and put into a cabinet or backpack when we fly across the country or go camping....it's small and less intrusive than the huge things they sell in the handicap stores....it's just that the tape leaves a residue after a while that has to be scrubbed off...and the cushioned seats aren't tough anough to last a long time...would be great if someone could invent something.....we'd buy it....hope that helps.....

I finally found the perfect seat but couldn't find my original thread to tell you about it! Anyway the details are HERE

I'm a quad (for 32 years) and developed a toilet seat with smaller hole for easier transfers, front/rear/side opening options, and 17" (420mm). I designed it as I found most holes weretoo large for transfers and my hip fell into the hole and I found I stuck to the vinyl cover over foam padding. Also the padding soaked up water (shower comode) and grew mold and stank!

The seat can be shaped and cut with wood working tools as easily as MDF but is waterproof and antibacterial (tests show it won't allow bacteria or mould to grow due to its chemical makeup. You can spray paint the final seat any colour you like then just screw it onto a commode seat frame as the base is flat and wood self tapping screws hold it in place well. If you have pressure sensitive areas, the seat can be sanded away with wood working tools, to create pressure relief area.

As such, stoppers could also be screwed (with stainless self tapper screws) underneath to suit any toilet. It will usually screw straight onto existing commodes to replace smelly old padded versions. Although it doesn't have padding, it is easy to slide on and the large rounded inside edge is skin friendly. Smaller hole gives room for boney prominences to be without pressure and most weght is supported through on the flat surface.

It's a seat that was recommended by the Sheffield SIU OTs, and I found it so good that I now stock them. They are a bit expensive (£60 ex VAT, no need to pay if registered disabled) but this price is marginally cheaper than the manufacturer sells them at, as I managed to keep my postage costs lower (included in the price).

I like this one as it can be fitted to the seat, so be stable, or deflated and carried around easily for use at friends, out shopping, or when travelling (hotels, etc...)
They are hand-made in the UK, and are durable.
