Hi my sister recently had an sci and is now a c5 complete. She feels like parenthood is definately out of the question (I'm not sure if she can actually have kids but she could adopt). I was wondering if anyone had any advice for her?

In theory if your sister is ovulating, has a regular monthly cycle and a partner then there is no reason why she shouldnt get pregnant just like any other woman. However the biggest challenge for her is AD. Im no expert but I believe that her actually pregnancy would be much the same as if she didnt have a SCi but actually giving birth can be a lot more dangerous. For this reason many opt for a scheduled C section. Having said that she probably would be able to give birth herself.

Im just about to have my 3rd,(2nd post) and I can say the 2nd was much like the 1st. If she is one of those women who was designed to have loads of kids chances are SCI wont make much difference overall.

otherwise not much else to add. if she really wants children then Id advise her to really go for it. Get a decent gynacologist who is sympathetic and willing to listen and learn and Im sure it will work out well for her. Get her to drop me a line if she wants to know more.

Cheers

Hi, When I had my first I had him naturally. We got to the hospital at 5:45 and he was born at 6:20. The Dr. pushed once on my stomach and out he slid. I had an angel with me, because I almost had a stroke, my blood pressure went real high. So with my second one I had a scheduled C section, with an epidural. Everything with her went fine. Good luck to your sister. I am s T-3, 4 but I know a girl that had her daughter and she's a C-5, She had her naturally!!

Thanks for sharing your experiences! I will pass them on to her. What about your challenges with caring for a baby/infant? Obviously some activities will be quite difficult for my sister as she doesn't have any finger movement.
