i'm pretty excited, i'm off to see one of my favourite comedians tonight - steve coogan, possibly best known as alan partridge.
i have been a fan for years.
so, who makes you laugh? what makes you laugh? its so imortant i think to have those laughs in life.
maybe include a clip of your fav at his/her best.
hopefully there will be some inappropriate humour, coz i like that, so might need to be in the xxx section of the site.

Please note this comedy was before the days of political correctness!

Omg i LOVE Dane Cook! I would include a clip but some of his stuff is pretty bad and i dont want to get in trouble lol. So if you like the sort of inappropriate humor look him up on youtube. Some of my favorite skits are; kool-aid, B&E, Pedophiles, and 15 cents...but there are tons more hilarious ones.

GEORGE CARLIN
I loved the way he viewed life and also the way he lived it. I was on a trip to L.A. and actually in Santa Monica where he died on the day he died.
So wild JT that you started this thread, cuz this morning I was thinking about that day back on June 22 (Mr. Hapa's B-Day) of this year when we made that trip.
Also, love Bernie Mac who died this year too. "I ain't scared."
Too many to mention and too tired to find my links.
Of course all the Brits make me laugh

Both hubby & I love
Eddie Izzard and
Brian Regan. We just saw both of them live (not together, but a few months apart, in San Diego and then in LA) and it was sooo much fun! I've put links to their websites so check 'em out ... really funny guys.

TV Shows has got to be Basil in Fawlty Towers, when a nation can be word perfect in some scenes its got to have some respect. But obviously great contenders are Blackadder II (still word perfect after 20 years), Fast Show (so many great characters), The Young Ones, I prefer Steve Coogan in Death of a salesman myself but Alan is good, the Office, Extras, Little Britain, Ab Fab and Life of Brian being the best comedy film of all time.
Comedians live, well IMHO no one comes close to Billy Connolly live (and I mean live, not a recorded edited show). I saw him 3 nights in a row last year and cried with laughing so much it hurt, and made me cough up my guts. I ached, each night was a separate piece of work. Each night was a 180 mile round trip for me and worth every moment of it
Also great live at the moment are Al Murray as the Pub Landlord (please don't judge him by his TV show, its totally rubbish in comparison). His live banter with an audience is simply breathtaking. I've seen 2 tours before he did his TV show, have booked to see him next spring so hope he is just as good. The Mighty Boosh are good live when they ad-lib with the audience (saw them last week), love muscle Russell Brand made me cringe and feel so uncomfortable with his show it was totally brilliant. Of course Ross Noble, Frankie Doyle, Dara O'Braian, Russell Howard, Ed Byrne, Bill Bailey are all very very good. People I've seen who I reckon are over rated include Omid (sorry to the earlier post, but his live show to a student audience was extremely flat), Lenny Henry (seen him three times now from mid 80's onwards, still hoping it would be better, still dismal), Jimmy Carr, very boring student rag mag style jokes. Sorry to say too but I went to see Chris Rock too last year, and remove all the Eddie Murphy copied racial stuff, you get a single boring blow job joke.
Of people 25 years ago I went to see Smith & Jones live in '85, and they were amazing. Griff naked apart from a tie, high heels and falling off a stage is just stuck in my memory bank. I saw Rick Mayal live at that time too, just after the Young Ones. It was at that point I first saw an unknown Ben Elton doing Ricks support, before he did Saturday night live, and he just stole the show. Saw a Rowan Atkinson live in '86, he was a real performer and I don't think he has ever toured since. Other oldies on TV? well who can forget the power at the time with anti-Thatch of Loadsamoney & Stavros. Yes, Harry Enfield was good years ago, when he was young, but Paul Whitehouse seems to drive it now.
Oh, sorry to have waffeled, but if I was to only allowed to see one more comedian or show in my life it would simply have to be Billy Connolly live without a doubt.

George Carlin, Eddie Izzard, South Park, Family Guy and on Youtube I think Lisa Nova can be quite fun too. during the american election, Saturday Night Live was really fun, The Daily Show, The Office (English Version) and old Monthy Python stuff...

Back to JT80 - how was Steve Coogan the other night? Do you think he's got more or less funny as he has got older? He's done a few films now hasn't he?
I think that some comedians loose it as they grow older, and they don't have new material and can only resort to stuff from their youth.

it was good, first half was ok - some lesser known characters, but 2nd half was excellent. he was as good as when i saw him in 1998.
coogan is a bit typecast as alan, and that what everyone generally likes the best. same with gervais and david brent etc

Nope. Although, a better example of "news imitation" would be Countdown with Keith Olbermann.
While not a SNL fan, this is pretty damn good.

everytime I see that movie. Alan Arkin is hilarious, then teamed with Peter Falk . . . OMG!! I agree about the remake, I couldn't even sit through half of it.
Alan Arkin is a great comedic actor. Catch 22, Slums of Beverly Hills, Little Miss Sunshine - I love that dry humor.
Looks as if we got a lot of George Carlin fans on here.

Bill Cosby is one of my faves too.

I'm Canadian so some of my favourite Comedians are as well. Rick Mercer, Brent Butt, Shaun Majumder (as Raj Binder), Tim Steeves, Russel Peters, Jeremy Hotts, so many more Canadians. I also like Lewis Black, Jon Pinette, Mitch Hedberg (RIP), Demitri Martin. I watch so much comedy that I can't even remember everyone's name.

I have no sense of humour. I never understand jokes and have to have them explained to me. How sad is that.
Having said that I do like Scottish humour, Billy Connolly of course and the series Still Game is totally hilarious. Bbc Scotland does produce some great humour but a lot of it never get shown down south.
