im having one of these injections done soon to stop leg pain(i got cental and right nerve )scaring .are they any good for nerve pain in my leg? will they effect any movement or do they just effect sensory parts??. because i got a small amount back in my foot and would like not to loose any as this has taken 7 months to get a little movement back.
anyone had one?
what was it like?
did it help with pain?
did you loose any function after one?

I have pretty bad pain in my right hip since shortly after my injury. Nerve pills never really helped much even in massive doses, so after a year of cooking my brain trying to make it subside I just gave up on the pills and started just taking the pain...which by the way really sucks. I have however adopted a pain threshold that Chuck Norris would be proud of... but it still sucks. So recently i decided to give a different doc a try and he scripted me a tens unit that seems to reduce the pain by about 60 percent and doesn't risk them going in and messing up some other nerve in there. If they did find a way that didn't risk me losing the feeling and movement I've regained I'd be all for it. The fact that it did help may aid the doc in finding that ever elusive better treatment plan.

I haven't heard of the method you are referring to though. I'll definitely check it out.

How were they able to map your nerve scarring?

cheers for the reply,i also use tens which helps only a small amount,i am also fed up with cooking my brain on morphine fentynal and gabapentin ect... they told me about scaring after doing MRI scans. hopfully someone would of had an injection like this and give more info

I myself am at this point of getting a injectable block placed in my back at the site of my injury. I have had enough with pain medications and since they only work sort term for me I turned out to be the perfect candidate for this procedure. The shots are also referred to as epidural and spinal block shots. They are not cortisone shots.
I hope to hear others advice and experiences as well.
I will repost when I get mine done.

im still waiting for my injections, i am going to go ahead with them coz i fed up with the leg pain , ive tried cutting back on pain meds and gabapentin but some days it is unbearable so end up back on full dose again,i think as this is a nerve block it will help ,fingers crossesd

Good luck and please IM me to let me know how it goes! I won't be able to get mine till after the new year so I will as well let you know how mine goes. I am worried about loosing what little trunk control I have once I get the shot. I was told some people loose all the muscle function below the shot while others maintain some.

well just got home from procedure, it was done in theatre using x ray ,only a split second of pain when the needle wa positioned, then a feeling of pressure but not painful,just got to wait now to see if it helps ith pain, does not seem to have made any diffrence to movement(which is what i was affraid of). i will keep posted over the next few days weeks

heres the update on pain so far.....i have a definate reduction in sharp shooting pains in my leg, i still get a few twinges which catch me out but ALOT less painful.
my back pain has no changed at all and i still have strong aching in my legs which is always worse at night,
so it has only helped with sharp shooting type pain, but the benefit of this is i can push my walking (with brace and 2 crutches) further

Thanks for the update. At least you have had some benefit for two weeks so far. It will be interesting to see if these last for much longer. I'm seeing my guy next at the end March, when I intend to quiz him more about this, and would appreciate any further updates from you before then.
