My nephew is C6 incomplete, and getting little or no therapy in Florida due to lack of insurance. His diving accident occurred July, 2008, and they only allowed him to stay 45 days in the hospital. Since then, being at home with no nursing care, he has regressed. Is there anywhere (in the country) that he can go to get physical therapy inpatient services with only Medicaid? He was a resident of Virginia before his accident. We know that this is precious time for him to regain functional use of his body. Please help us. Thank-you.

When my wife was hurt 2 years ago ,they flew her to

Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin. She was there for 5 weeks in rehab and then they sent her home. I applied for Medicaid for her and it was approved. This Hospital was great and they did every thing for her on Medicaid. They have a SCI unit that deals with rehab and recovery.
If you google Froedtert , you should find some thing about the hospital.

You might also try contacting the Sister Kenny Institute and Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Kenny Institute is part of Abbott-Northwestern. I did my rehab at Sister Kenny in 1965-1966 and had a couple surgeries at Abbott-Northwestern.

Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville has a limited number of spots each month for those with no insurance....other hospitals may have similar programs but you have to ask. Tom was lucky enough to have a number of friends who assisted with his application. We had no idea how lucky we were until we later found out about the draconian 45-day limit. The people at Brooks were fantastic.
