I was diagnosed with a kidney infection on Monday and given a prescription for antibiotics after suffering miserable since the previous Wednesday. I had so many different symptoms and first wrote it off as gas, and then I thought I pulled a muscle, and then I thought I was having caffeine withdrawal as I had a horrible headache, then severe fever (104-105 F. I've never even heard of a fever that high), shakes, sweats and vomiting kicked in so I thought I had the flu. By Sunday morning I knew something was very wrong and there was no way I would be well enough to go back to work. I had a house doctor come by and he thought it was gallbladder and I should go to emerg. My husband was working and I was in no shape to sit in emerg (also known as 'the human zoo') I waited until the morning and was diagnosed at that time. So I've been on antibiotics for 72 hours and I'm resting at a balmy 101-102 F. with only a mild headache. I went into work on Wednesday as I'm not contagious and HAD to finish something but it took me the whole day to complete that one task. I went in again today and I was a little more functional...BUT shouldn't I be better by now? I'm tired of being ill and have a tight schedule of projects I need to finish before Christmas break. The infection is my own fault. I get caught up in my work and I go to the bathroom about as well as I am able to walk and since I don't have incontinence issues, I don't void as often as I should. Lesson learned. Also, is water-retention associated with a kidney infection? Oddly, I have not lost any weight which is a bit bizarre given I haven’t eaten anything in a week, but my abdomen is ‘very’ bloated. Waiting for your input.

I spent 3 days in the hospital last week due to a kidney infection. I still don't feel 100%. I was given I.V. antibiotics and oral. I couldn't eat and still gained 5 pounds. It is water retention. I have been going way more often and in larger amounts in the last few days. Rest in your friend. Stress and work are your enemy.
Never explain--your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm probably the exact opposite of you...being that if you're fatdave; I'm skinnykrista. We'd be a funny pair! hehe. The fact that I've gained 5 lbs and have a beachball stomach right now is a little troubling but I'm glad to hear that it passes. Have a good night!

I suffered a kidney infection about fifteen years ago that was not symptomatic prior to my out of the blue, experiencing the pain of a punch in my back. I couldn't breathe when it hit, the pain was so great. I went to Urgent Care, got a Rx for antibiotic and was laid up in bed for about seven days. I tried to go back to work sooner but the pain was too great.
Other than that, no symptoms or complications.
I hope you recover quickly. It's quite annoying to be 'down' for any length of time.
