My husband is 6 months post injury and started to get feeling below his nipple line a few weeks after his accident he is an incomplete c6 c7 quad and is able to feel all touch except for a few places near his armpits and around his stomach. His feet are very tingly and has major spasms. I don't want to seem overly hopeful but I don't know anyone that has sensation like that where they are suppose to be paralyzed....is there anyone else out there like this and what does it mean? Why are there so much sensory nerves but no motory nerves? Can one help the other for him to walk again? His arms have returned his hands have returned his trunk has returned he's suppose to be paralyzed from the chest down...do you think it's possible his legs could still regain mobility? Kimmie

My husband is four months post injury (c-5, c-7 function) and he has almost normal sensation over his whole body, but none of the movement. It's because movement and sensation are two separate nerves and one has nothing to do with the other (unfortunately). But because their injuries are incomplete there is somewhat more hope for more recovery. Stephen says being able to feel so much is almost more frustrating than not feeling anything at all because his feet feel normal but they just won't move. But never give up hope. Every SCI is different.

My husband has also regained sensation after a year post injury. Between injury and 18 months, your body will typically come out of "spinal shock". Your body will regain some sensation and sometimes some movement....but usually just sensation.
For instance, when my husband came out of spinal shock his bladder started contracting again and it causes him to pee in between caths. He can also feel when he needs to empty his bladder, but he can't control it. He has to take medicine to relax his bladder so it won't contract.
