Hi I would like some one to explain to me some of the technical terms in my medical report. For example, what is a harm's cage? I have attached my spinal report in this post. Do you guys know if the titanium plate inserted into my lower spine can last for roughly how many years, but the ortho doc says that it will have to stay in there permanently.

For cauda equina syndrome, the prospect for recovery is small? I have no sensations in my anal and private parts. From this report is it that I have a complete lower spinal injury?

A Harm's Cage is a titanium structure that is used to replace a removed vertebral body. Often, in addition to the placement of the cage, the surrounding vertebrae are fused with titatnium rods for added support. From your report, it appears your L3 was removed and replaced by the cage and supported by rods and screws. Your inserted hardware will last as long as you do.

It was interesting to read your report because it is somewhat similar to mine. I had burst fractures at T12, L1 and L5 with retropulsion at T11 and T12. Though, in addition, I had sacral fractures, T8 compression fracture, T11 pedicle fracture, and spinous process fractures at C7, T1, T2, T3.

Unfortunately, the lack of bowel, bladder and sexual sensations are very common for most SCIs. It's a bitch, but we're all in this together. Hang in there and keep focused on the positives!

hey thanks!

How long have you had the injury and how do I know whether my injury is complete or incomplete and what is the difference?

Sorry it took me so long to respond, but I just now read your post.

I've had the following changes since I got out of inpatient rehab:

- increase in some motor function in my legs
- decrease in sensory function in my legs
- major increase in pain in my sacrum, legs and feet

Take care!

Hi. for me I have lesser sensations on the undersides of my legs and thigns. I cannot bend my big toe of the left foot and I have no sensations in my anal and private part. Sometimes I have shooting pain towards the lower sides of my feet.
