So I learned about this pageant (guess you could call it that) because I have had several people tell me I should enter as a contestant. These are friends who are are both sci, and ab who have suggested this to me. So my question is what are all your thoughts and opinions on this? I mean in some ways I guess it seems kind of cool, but then again it seems a bit weird to compete in a pageant that is solely for women in chairs.
Let me add, nothing you say will offend me because, first off, it takes a hell of a lot to offend me lol, and second, i'm not a contestant or anything, plus like i said I cant even decide how i feel about this myself....

Nichole,

I just wanted to say that I think that is a great opportunity for you to represent disabilties and get the AB community educated as well as other people in wheelchairs.

also I am from Kansas and I think that the idea is just great all together. I currently reside in Texas. I miss home tho. Anyway, I think you should go for it but if you win be prepared to be in the spot light. Also if you win really make an impact...I would love to read about your success.

One last thing, I was just in the Chat Room and you chimed in and I have to tell you that was a little rude for you just leave like that. I was only trying to say hello and that I was reading your post and that I thought it was a good thing for you to try to do.

You said that nothing no one could say would offend you soz I hope that did not offend you! Anyway, I still think you are cool...HECK you are from where I am from...GO KANSAS. Good luck in whatever you decide!

Oh I'm sorry! I really wasn't trying to be rude. For some reason the past few days every time i try to log into the chat it makes my internet connection crash. I didnt even get the chance to see if anyone was in the room before it crashed :( Now i feel bad! I'm sorry!

But yes, GO KANSAS! I'm from Jayhawk country myself :)

No worries...I think I owe you the apology. I just ASSUMED that you were being rude. If you could accept my apology.

Anyway, I think that Kansas is doing a really good thing with the Ms. Wheelchair Pageant. I think you would win ...no doubt about it. I think you are a nice person I hear it in your words.

So go for it...

Again pleeez except my apology!

Our thoughts and opinions.
On what? You entering the contest? Or on the contest it's self?

On the one hand the contest further separates us from AB's cuz it's only for the disabled.
On the other hand it takes us out of the shadows and puts us in the public light, showing the world we're no different from everyone else.

About you entering the contest? That's on you babe. Whatever's right. Search within yourself blah blah blah etc.

If you really want my opinion (and who wouldn't, as I know beauty better than anyone) I would need to see some fotos. 8 by 10 or bigger. Preferably
bathing suit stuff, mini skirt with fishnets and heels etc. Let me know, I'll give you a shipping address. LOL

Whatever you decide, I'll support you 100 percent.

Hi Nichole

I think anything that brings awareness to people with disabilities, and their struggles
with living in a society that really does not recognize the things they have to go through each day, is a GOOD thing. If you decide to be a contestant ,I think you will make a great one !!
I would vote for ya !!

Being an AB with a para wife I think it is a great opportunity for you. I'm going to check and see if there is a pageant in Wisconsin. I say GO FOR IT !!!

For me personally, I wouldn't do it. I just don't like the idea of having a system set aside just for women in wheelchairs. I have entered pageants where every contestant was able bodied, but I actually ended up winning. I also have several city titles. I don't see myself as different than others, so I don't want others seeing me as different either. I know I can compete just as well as any AB, and although it difficult to prove that, I definitely love the challenge.

However, the choice is totally up to you. If you think it would be fun, go for it! You will definitely have everyones support ;)

Oh its fine, if i was being rude i'd want someone to call me out on it anyway lol.

Thanks for all the opinions and encouragement so far :) I still haven't decided if i want to do it or not yet. I sort of have mixed feelings about it. On one hand i think it would be really cool, but then i also feel like Beautiful in the fact that I never like to do anything that makes me seem "different" I suppose lol.

Oh and E-Dog, I'll get right on taking some pics to send to you....haha.

Although I wouldn't participate, you need to see the goal of pageants.

Most pageants are there for women to gain confidence, and to show their inner beauty. To become role models for others... to show they are worthy of imitation in a positive way. I had learned so much about myself and overcame a lot of fears by doing pageants. I was deathly afraid of public speaking, but I overcame that fear. I used to think that looks were important, but by the end of my first pageant, I realized how little that mattered.

Anyways, my point is, why do YOU want to do this? For fun? For the experience? To make new friends? To gain confidence? Personally I think those are fabulous reasons. If any of those are your reasons, then I say GO FOR IT! :)

Hi, although I think it is a good thing to do for your self confidence I am also kind of against those sort of exclusive pageants. I have seen Miss India, Miss Pacific Island, Miss woman with orange hair with a nose ring, miniskirt and freckles kind of thing (actually I made the last one up, you may have guessed) and I feel they are discriminatory in themselves perhaps through a kind of apartheid.
I have never seen a Miss white America pageant before and I feel if I did it would only be at a klan meeting but if they did have one should they be frowned upon or welcomed too? If we aren't going to allow any group to have any sort of exclusionary pageant then hypothetically should we truly allow anybody to discriminate against anything? That of course would be an ideal world where we were able to see beauty in anyone and everything and just isn't going to happen. Standard beauty pageants in themselves are discriminatory or they would have wheelchair ramps (in my limited experience I can't say they don't one hundred percent) and no prior perception of beaty so I suppose I agree as we don't live in an ideal world and everyone should have opportunities.
Do I think you should enter? : they are having it anyway so why not?
Do I think you will win judging by one photo of yet another beautiful girl in a chair? : From what I can see, Heck Yes!
Keep us posted on how you go.
PS, I used to have the same problem with the chat room too until I updated my 1988 computer. Now I can go anywhere I want.

If you don't enter then I will. So, to save the world and the dignity of all SCI persons it would save a lot of trouble of you did enter. But just in case you don't, I'd like advice on whether people think I should pluck my eysbrows or do they add a certain natural nonchalance remaininng wildly busy as they are. And, is there a bikini contest - I may need a brazillian?

No no, Nomis. No plucking the eyebrows babe. Waxing is the way to go. Much better and quicker. Maybe more pain, but hey, no pain no gain, right? :)
