Hi, I had my accident just over a year ago. I got off quite lightly compared with most here, but have been numb down my left leg, buttock and left side of my groin (have motor function). Recently I have been experiencing and odd and not overly pleasant sensation on the back of my leg. I 'feel' as if something sticky is on my skin causing my trousers to stick to my skin (they don't be). It is quite hard to describe! Anyone had this type of thing? Is it a sign of returning function or my brain playing tricks (as happens with amputees)? Should I go and see the doctor?

I get the same thing, and also I have a strange new heavy feeling in my feet. I was told that it is a good sign but not to get overly excited about it. But i have cauda equina syndrome so it may be different

WilliamLX,

Our injuries are similiar (T11 Incomplete) so I thought I would respond to your post. My accident happended a little over 6 months ago and like you I got off lucky. I do have some numbness in my legs and lower back, but its slowly getting better. As far as me feeling something sticky I guess you could say I have felt something like that for months. I would describe it for me like I always itch? One time it was so bad I scratched a good size sore on the side of my leg in the middle of the night. Yes you should go to the doc and see what they think. Do you continue to work out? I still continue about 4 days a week working out, especially my legs. I use a treadmill, stationary bike and a arc trainer. Something new I started using for balance is this 1/2 like rubber ball that I stand on and try to keep balance. It really fires up the legs and makes me have muscle spasms. My spasms seem like they are slowly going away, I don't think they were really that bad to begin with. Most of the time I feel pretty good and then there will be one of those days I feel pretty stiff. I finally got off all my meds! I'm very happy about that. For me this may seem strange but I feel I have had my best gains when I have said screw everything as far as working out etc. and just did something out of the norm. Break up my normal routine, go away for the weekend or just do something crazy and try not to think about the injury! I guess it might be easier for me because I don't use anything wheelchair etc. I feel pretty fortunate and blessed, I'm trying to live each day to the fullest and pay it forward, for all the help I've had from alot of good people.
