I didn't realize when I registered what type support site this was for, but since I am here maybe someone can help me out here. I had a hystorectomy in Oct 2008 and while the doctor was removing the uterus he nicked my bladder causing me to have a cath. for 10 days and now i have on going UTI's
I have been treated with macrobid 2 days after meds where gone UTI came back, now I am on my 2nd time taking Bactrum last time I took it UTI came back less then a week after meds where finished. I have had 3 UTI's in a months time and after starting meds my bladder doesn't feel like someone is pinching it anymore when I go potty but I do have not when I go but afterwards and just while I am sitting around. I hope someone can give me some Ideas I can't take much more of this.
Thank You All.

I do have burning it what I was trying to say but forgot to type...lol

How do you go potty? If you self cath make sure your hands are clean and all your tools..I went through that for a while in the begining..I no it SUCKS!!!! I think your body has to get used to the stuff. See how the doctor nickeg your bladder;well your body is trying to heal..So probbly until it is all heal up you might have to through this crap...I would ask the doctor to take a low dosage of antibocs for a little while...

I think that's obvious, they are just asking for some advice on uti's something i think we all have experience with, not a problem in my eyes.

I'm assuming you have been taking the correct antibiotics for the infection, maybe the course isn't long enough or some resistance has built up.

Sometimes daily low dose antibiotics can help

Good luck

No I am not parlized, was just hoping anyone here that has had a reoccuring UTI's could give me some
advice on how they got rid of there's.... If you look at my post it says how this all started and that I was hoping for a little advice on what I could do to get rid of the UTI's once and for all. I was so involved when reading the postings on UTI's on this site that I did not realize this was a support group for spinal cord injuries if me posting here has offended you or anyone else I am sorry I did not mean to offend anyone.

With my first UTI after surgery my doctor gave me microbid it worked while i was taking it but two days after i finished it the uti came back and since then i have had 2 scrips for bactrum the first scrip for bactrum work while i was taking it but came back 4 days after i finished it and the 2nd scrip will be finished tomorrow and i am worried that the uti will once again return. The doctor has only been giving me enough for 7 days and just wondering if it should be a lower dose for a longer time. Thank You for your help....Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Hi, it could take a while but try and make sure you take a few precautions. Cranberry tablets can help as can Ural or Citravescent. Another thing that can help is cider vinegar and parsley tea really worked well for me. More than anything though, drink plenty of water, around 2.5 litres of water per day from a bottle so you can see how much you are drinking. A lot of people think they are drinking lots but if they measure it it isn't really that much. Hopefully this should help. Perhaps get in contact with the doctor or a good urologist who can probably give you better treatment. I hope you get better soon, it isn't nice to be sick like that. Just as people in here don't want to be excluded from public buildings, I don't think we should exclude people from the ab (able bodied) world who are looking for info.

I've had my share of uti's and they do come back more often for those of us who cath a lot than for you ABs,,, but it is distressing if it happens at all,,,, so I sympathize completely.

Changing meds and taking them for longer than a week have both been helpful,,,,,but your general health is important , too , in stopping ANY infection.

Slowlegs is right about the cranberry and the water,, but don't forget vitamins,,,, particularly vitamin C,,, 1000 mg a day is NOT excessive and my urologist is who suggested it to me.

Make sure your doctor is sending your urine samples to laboratory for testing,,,, I had an e coli uti, recently, that was resistant to the normal antibiotic,,, cipro,, that is prescribed most often. I was on it for a week before he called to change my meds.

These things are a pain in the a##,, so I hope you are well soon.

Merry and Happy to you and your's, too.

Now, I'm on Bactrim daily as a maintenance drug prescribed by my urologist to prevent urinary tract infections. As a quad, I'm prone to infections but with a lot of water, cranberry tabs, ascorbic acid and the Bactrim I have not had any infections in some time.
