The "sandy grit" can be analyzed to find out, exactly, what it is,,,,,,, but only if you find ,,, as stated above,,,, a good urologist.

Hi Agzzy, welcome from over the ditch. I used to have a SPC and mine blocked regularly from infection. What blocked it looked like bread in a fish pond after feeding the ducks. A lot of bacteria can cause blockages and it isn't down to just one. To me if it is gritty it sounds more like stones or crystals rather than from infection but I could be wrong, especially as you drink 2 to three litres a day of water. It could be also be seminal fluid as a result of retrograde ejaculation. I agree with the others. Check out what it is, perhaps first with an MSU and then if no infection take it further. I like your site, my Dad had a 67 HR premier in white with red upholstery. Only had 20000 miles on it when he got it in 84. Got my license in it. I am a Ford guy but still appreciate a good Holden. Good luck with the catheter issues and congratulations on the engagement.

I was experiencing the same symptoms. My foley would get blocked and I would have to change it once a week. It looked like sand. After months of dealing with this, I found a new doctor and he looked inside my bladder and found bladder stones. He flushed out my bladder and set up an appt. to get rid of the stone. I had the stone removed in Nov. and have had no problems since. A friend of mine knows someone who had bladder stones also. I guess it is common. I hope that this information helped you.

aggzy -

try checking your vitamin intake - was told by a mother/caregiver for a C1-2 that he developed crystalization on the bubble (supra pubic cath) that was serious. He lived, by the way, for 20 yrs. Amazing story.

Good luck

i had exactly the same, build up around the eye of the spc from debris in the bladder. i suggest you need a cystoscopy to check your bladder and removal of the debris if found. in the short term, if you are having problems you can do a bladder washout at home - ask your doc or nurse for a bladder washout kit. jt

I have my SPC changed every 5 weeks. When I look at the end its usual coated in calcium deposits. Having an SPC increases the chances of bladder stones and bladder cancer.

I had my SPC done about 3 years ago; I hate it as I still have masses of urethral leakage, mostly at night.

How often do you change your SPC?

hey scrib

i change it about very week at the moment because it blocks

ive had mine about 3 yrs too and have never leaked maybe the try some i tHINK
its oxy butan (anyone correct me if im wrong) to injections into the bladder

its not really a injection you inject it up the cath

better if u have a 2 way cath it make the urethral sphincter hold shut

also try using a bigger cath? i use a 18

fastwheels i will inquire about them caths
