Hi,
Ive been wanting to start using the gym and going swiming but all the pools and gyms around here dont have the equipment I need eg hoists, plinths, gym equipment with seats that swing away so I can get my chair in. I went to a local councillor and he was really enthusiastic about helping me but Ive heard nothing and nothing has been done.

I was just wondering if anyone else had problems like this, or has any advice where I should go from here. I dont want to go down the discrimination route but its very frustrating being surrounded by facilities I can t use :yikes:
Don't be fooled by the wheels that i got, am still jenny from the block!!

Try going back to that counselor and talk to him again then see if you can hook up with some others in chairs that want to use the pool and gym too, there's power in numbers.

Disability Sport in Stirling

Try the above link. There is also the name and phone number for someone for you to contact. try mentioning the DDA if you get no joy. I think you will find they are legally obliged to provide some accessible equipment within the area. My local gym isnt big enough but the 2 larger ones in Hexham and Prudhoe both have accessible stuff. Most council gyms run various classes, eg, over 60s and here there is an MS gym group so they use a lot of the wheelchair accessible equipment.

Hope this helps a bit.
cheers
L
